    3. Flo, New Rome OH is a different place from Rome OH. Rome is in Green Twp. Adams Co. down on the OH River while New Rome is in Prairie Twp. Franklin Co. up in the center of the state. I have a DeLorme atlas of OH and it shows New Rome just to the west of the Columbus city limits near US 40. I believe the OH death certs. before 1954 are at the OH Historical Society. There should be some way to get a copy. I have written an email to someone who might be able to help. Stay tuned. If this doesn't work out, I think you might be able to get one through other channels. HRA

    3. Dear HRA, In a memoir-type letter about her Mother, Nellie Ruth Cox wrote "Mother and Dad sold the farm at Portland and moved to New Rome, Ohio (near Columbus) in 1945. They had five acres and Dad continued to raise vegetabels to sell. In 1950 he had the flu which weakened his heart. He died of a heart attack July 7, 1950...............after Father's death, Mother sold her New Rome home, I sold my home in Columbus (43 Latta Ave.); we bought at 1081 Harrisburg Piek.. Do you know if Harrisburg Piek was in New Rome? I am wondering now if he was taken back to WV to be buried or if he was buried on his land in New Rome. I am assuming that in 1950 New Rome would be the same as Rome. I keep running into more questions but that is what genealogy is all about, right? Again, thanks for your help. At this point I do not have anything to add, but am doing a review of my materials and confirming documentation. I am however, truly amazed that this discussion was originally started in 2000 and here we are in 2007 and still trying to sort out these families. The Shelton and Taylor families in my line are presenting much of the same problems... too many families with children all the same age who had similar naming patterns. Amen for technology to help us, I remember the days when letter writing was the only communication I had with folks doing similar research and it was a very slow process. Happy Easter!
