Bob Eubanks, Leesburg, FL The following is an excerpt from a book written by Mrs William John Gross, in 1941, titled "Glimpses of Parker-Knox-Paris Family, 1722-1941. Mrs Gross was the mother of Constance Gram who submitted some Paris genealogy to the Family History Center. page 116, Section X Children of Mary (Paris) Smalley, a daughter of Stephen D. Paris. Mary was born Feb 8, 1852; was married Feb 27, 1878, near Mineral Springs, Ohio, to James Smalley. The Rev. William Nevil, officiating. Mr. Smalley passed away Dec 22, 1935 and his wife. Mary Francis passed on Dec. 28, 1935. Both were burried in the same grave. He was a farmer. For several years before her husband passed away, he was nearly blind, and seven years before he died, he suffered a stroke, but his faithful wife, Mary, who was a very sweet Christian woman, bore all her sorrow and suffering without complaint. She cared for him until July of 1935 when she fell and fractured a hip. In October of that year, they were taken to the home of their son Samuel Otis Smalley, where they both were called home in December of that year. To James and Mary F. were born nine children, James, Willis, Nona, Leslie and Emma all died in childhood. Frank died in 1917. John, Samuel O. and Charles W. are still living. I do not know a whole lot about her and was hoping that some one out there would. I have from her oldest son's marriage license a place where she was born. That was Adams County, Ohio. I have her name from her other son's marriage record. And have been able to locate an obit on her death date which had very little if no information that was any good to me. The obit called her Mrs. James Caldwell. Ok. Her oldest son was born in July 1879 and she died in Ky in 1888. She married James A. Caldwell (either from Lawrence County, Ohio or Lawrence County, Kentucky I have documents saying he was born in both places and we all know you can't be born in two places at the same time and yes I am sure this is the right guy) So what I am asking in any of the Smalley family histories is there a place for my great great grandmother? Does anyone have or know about her in their histories? I would like to find out who her parents ! were and her date of birth and her marriage date to James. I have not been lucky finding them in the 1880 census. Any suggestions on where to look for her. Since Ohio doesn't have marriages that go that far back. Or do they? Thanks for reading. She then married Hiram Dodge 12-27-1906 in Adams Co. He is shown in the Scioto Co. jail in 1910 but shows married 3 years. Unable to locate Elizabeth in 1910 buth they are together in 1920 & 1930. Wylie/Wiley Size: 5 KB Lucy A. is the daughter of Stephen & Lucinda Wylie. Check the 1880 Adams Co., Oh census. Lucinda is the daughter of Wm.& Lucy Adams, Bath Co.Ky /Adams Co/Oh. On the census, she is listed as 17 years of age, making her born in 1863. I have her death certificate at home in Ca, but you can get a copy at the Health Dept in West Union. The only Frank Adams I can come up with is Charles Franklin Adams, son of Lige Adams. Lige is the brother of my Grandfather John Calvin Adams( 1871), both sons of John Marion Adams(1831), son of William (1792) & Lucy Bailey Adams.On the death cert for Lucy Ada Wylie (Adams), her info is given by a Frank Adams. I am thinking that maybe this was her brother, Francis Wylie & not Frank Adams. Maybe it was a mistake when her death info was given. I think the Wylies are buried in Lawshe Cem?? I checked the 1900 Adams Co census for Lucy A.Adams, but came up empty. Have you checked for a marriage license for her or where she is buried & what her headstone says? I am in Greene Co, OH, but will be back home in CA on May 16th. I can send you a copy of her death cert if you want it. I can't remember if it says she was md, single or a widow on it.
