There were PUCKETTs living near Sinking Spring in Highland County; just over the line from Adams and Pike Counties. In the 1920 census, there was a William B. PUCKETT age 36 with his wife and 2 sons..Kenith E. age 8 and James W. age 1. Next door to him was James A. PUCKETT age 40 living with his mother, Nancy M. age 74. Delsa
I have just learned of a land patent records web site created by the Bureau of Land Management. It has a data base and image access to over 2 million federal land title records issued between 1820-1908 for the states of: AL, AR, FL, IL, IN, LA, MI, MN, MS, MO, OH and WI. You can actually see and print an image of the record itself or order a certified copy of the record if you want. The web address is www.glorecords.blm.gov It is a great site! Karen Starkey Burke, VA
I would like to invite all the listers to visit and hopefully bookmark the Obituary Links Page as a useful resource for your family searching. Check it out and feel free to submit any links to online obituaries, death notices, cemetery inscriptions, and mortality schedules. While this may sound morbid to the non-researcher, folks like us know the value of such records! I research CRIBBS, KREBS, CREPS, KRIBBS. Thanks, Bill Cribbs Be sure and check out the Obituary Links Page at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/7748/obit/obituary.htm The Family Surname Obituary Links at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/7748/obit/famobit.htm And the incredible Obituary Search Engine Links Page at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/7748/obit/links.htm
Dee asked if I had information on the parents of Elizabeth Wisecup. I'd mentioned Elizabeth in my post with the subject "William Thomas and Descendants". William Thomas' son Samuel married Elizabeth WISECUP. Dee, I have speculated that Elizabeth may be the daughter of Abraham Wisecup, but I have no proof. Elizabeth was supposedly born in Pennsylvania. Her tombstone indicates she was born 16 Feb 1800 and died 21 Apr 1878. She is buried at Jacksonville Cemetery, Meigs Twp., Adams County. Elizabeth married (1) Samuel THOMAS, 4 Mar 1823, Adams County, Ohio. She married (2) Samuel THOROMAN, about 1850. Although I'm not descended from Elizabeth, I am both a Thomas and a Thoroman descendant, so I am happy to exchange information on both surnames. Dee, here's hoping your Elizabeth Wisecup is the same as this one. Margaret mlsopp@ix.netcom.com soppml@interlake.com !

EXMAN b. abt. 1868 Ohio married Mary Etta SMITH b. February 17, 1870 Ohio Children: Helen Harold Norman married Helen COX of Hamilton Co., OH Eugene Exman (became a publisher at Harper Bros.) Does anyone have information on this family? Estel NICHOLS son of Charles NICHOLS and Icy SPIRES. Icy was the daughter of Noah and Mary SPIRES. Estel was born about 1912. Would appreciate any information. Thanks in advance! Janet
I was wondering if any one might have had ancestors that were in Ontario, Canada before coming into Adams County, Ohio. My Marvin line was in Canada in 1801.
Carolyn, Thank you for the Santee information. Every little bit helps. I have not really gotten too far into this line yet. Someone sent me a little information and said that they thought there was Indian in that line. I'm wondering if maybe the Adams Co. Santees came from Pa.. This will be something I'll check into. Janet
Thanks to Betty, I can now mail this. >In 1824, the blacksmith William ECKMAN arrived in Wayne Township, at the >future site of Eckmansville. Robert MORRISON died 10 Feb 1863, at age >81, and was buried in Cherry Fork Cemetery. Robert MORRISON's wife >Phebe/Phoebe died 17 Aug 1866, and was buried by his side. She was born >15 Aug 1793. > I have a question about an Eckman family member. I have Esther Anne Eckman born 17 July 1839 in Eckmansville, Adams county. She moved to Hale township, Warren county, Illinois sometime before the 1870 census and died there 14 July 1908. She married George Evans Miller about 1862 most likely in Ohio. He was the son of Oliver Miller and Margaret McCague who had married in Adams county 11 December 1817. George was born in Cherry Fork 26 December 1828. As far as I know Esther was his first wife. I am curious about Esther's parents, does anyone know more about her? Hope I am posting to the correct place. I am asking this for a friend who does not have a computer. He is interested in Capt. W. W. Little who he believes lived in Manchester, Ohio. Capt. Little was a steamboat captain on the Ohio River in the late 1800's. I will pass along any information that anyone may have. John ---- kennedyj@gemair.com
Hi Susan, thanks for the offer. I would appreciate anything on Freelands that may be in the book. Sandy L
An elderly second cousin just sent me a copy of the booklet published in 1965 as part of the sesquincentenial celebration of Winchester, Adams County. It has a wealth of information about the settlers of the town and the area. I would be willing to look up and pass on any information in it. It was very helpful for my research. Susan E Locke
Hello Adams rooters! I just recently obtained an album in which 17 images are permanently mounted. Fourteen are clearly identified as members of the 24th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment. I suspect that the other three are members of the regiment also. I am constructing the history of the 24th OVI. Can anyone claim family members from among this group of images? If you would like to take a look at the images, use this web address: http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/Senate/1861/albumtin.html If you have any comments, please contact me personally at the above address or at: OVI24th@juno.com John C.
