    1. [OHADAMS-L] LDS site AOL in EUROPE
    2. Nationwide newspaper articles on the LATTER DAY SAINTS web search engine have resulted in 2,000,000 hits per day-far beyond it's capacity. My nursing duties require me to be up in the middle of the night. This 4 am,the LDS had a 15 min useage for the search engine-announced after 15 min was up Yesterday early am,the LDS sigt was allowing log-on's only in the 1st 30 min of each hour; 2 days ago,the site was busy ,but usuable 3-4 am. Was hard to log onto at 6:45 am,and too busy to be usuable at 7:30 am EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIMES. All I've used is the 1st search engine;enter a 1st and last name, and because of the 15 min limit,a father or wife's name will narrow the field. Much is International Genealogical INDEX,[IGI] which is unreliable.Yesterday's search listed a grandfather as father once. It's another tool, and for a shut-in,a great tool. 18 MONTHS AGO, www.ancestry.com had just up-graded their servers to handle 50,000 hits a day ,when they were mentioned as a good on-library on an am TV show. Their hits jumped to 300.000 a day. I understand this LDS explosion of hits has had a spillover on other web sites. This early am's TV BUSINESS reports say AOL is making a major,"unlimited time" push in Europe. They already have 2,000,000 AOL members in EUROPE. Those members can,and some do,join Americans on the 24 hr-7day AOL "Family Treehouse Chat". There are regulars there from Yorkshire, and Liverpool.and every couple weeks,I "chat" with a pro genealogist from Scotland. I'm sure there is an AOL gnealogy chat room in GERMAN. Aol users in Europe pay high phone bills ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 3. I was also in Adams Co. in 1957 for the last time. We had our family reunions there. Does anyone know where the park was - I remember it had the first inground pool which was quite a sight. Of course I was only 10. Can anyone verify this pool and park- I am passing through Adams Co. on my way to Lewis Co., KY in a couple of weeks and would like to see it. 1. [OHADAMS-L] World's Plowing Matches, n Peebles,1957
    2. One of the bigger events in the history of Adams Co,Ohio was held the summer of 1957 north of Peebles-the World's Plowing Matches. It was well promoted in the area newspapers, including Cincinnati, and drew a big crowd. Here in Clermont Co,the Soil Conservation COMMITTEE chartered a couple CROSWELL buses to haul farmers to the event. I was 18,and I expected huge tractors competing to see how much they could plow in an hour, but instead,it was smaller tractors, going very slowly, pulling plows with many adjustments, going very slowly, trying to see how straight they could plow, and how much of the grass they could completely turn over. We farmed on a busy highway, [Ohio RT 125]and if you didn't plow straight furrows, passing farmers would kid you all summer. But plowing seems a lost art today. Besides the plowing,I remember a competition of Border Collies working sheep. And I met a future OHIO STATE frat brother, who was running a demonstration on just how easy it was to tip one of the old JOHN DEERE tricyle tractors for OSU's Ag Equipment Studies Dept..My wife's grandfather had one of those tipsy old tractors on a hilly farm. They killed many a farmer. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
