    1. Re: [OHADAMS] DAR lineage information
    2. Ancestry.Com has some of the DAR listings for free for a limited time I looked at them a couple of days ago. Just go to their site and look at the free databases to see if they are still on there. Sandy

    1. [OHADAMS] DAR lineage information
    2. You can find out more about those who applied for DAR membership on a particular ancestor by requesting a copy of their application from the National Office of the DAR in Washington, D.C. Include the DAR # and $5 for each application requested. The application will include the address of the applicant as it was at the time of application. Then you could probably do a directory search to see if there are present-day descendants. It's worth a try.... Also, the application often include names of other siblings, which might provide other clues. Good luck, Margaret Ernest

    1. Re: [OHADAMS] Re: [OHADAMS-L] {not a subscriber} Hiram Potts andfamily
    2. Cathy Brinkman; Not sure how I got your message, but my Hiram POTTS is definitely attached in some way to those POTTS in Loudoun Co. VA. The POTTS family (yes, numerous males) went all over the place from Philadelphia and Virginia. That's my problem. I can't attach Hiram, his brother David, and parents Jesse and Hannah to anyone with any certainty, just have had information given to me that they are descended from the BIG Potts family. We'll see. thanks for your input. Ann Bergelt Florida

I have a POTTS family from Loudoun County, VA to Adams County, OH cir. 1830s. POTTS is a large family with lots of sons in each generation. There is no Hiram or Jesse in my database, although I have David who was probably born early 1700's. The progenitors of my Adams County POTTS were Enos POTTS and Lydia BROWN. I think they were brought to Adams County, quite late in life, by their son, Enos who was still in Loudoun County, Virginia until at least 1832 where he married Martha TAVENNER. Cathy Brinkman

    3. I looked up the DAR lineage and found two persons who had obtained membership by way of my son's ancestor Jesse EDWARDS, resident of Scioto and Adams Counties. Perhaps if I can track these descendants down, they will have info about Jesse and his siblings and parents that I don't have. Their names are: Eliza Ellen Browning, wife of Thomas M. BROWNING. She was born in Tippecanoe County, IN. No date given. Eliza was the daugher of James H. Dazey and Nancy OPPEY Walden. Eliza was the granddaughter of David OPPEY and Elizabeth EDWARDS. Elizabeth EDWARDS was the daughter of Rev War vet Jesse EDWARDS and wife Catherine BEEKMAN. Mrs. Ettie BULL SHANKLIN, born in Charleston, IL. No date given. Wife of O. G. SHANKLIN. Ettie was daughter of William M. BULL and Julia Ann SWIM. Granddaughter of Jesse SWIM and Narcissus SWIM, his wife. Gread granddaughter of Samuel SWIM and Susannah EDWARDS, b. 1779, his wife. Susanah was daughter of Rev War vet Jesse EDWARDS and wife Catherine BEEKMAN. Would welcome and appreciate any info about present day descendants of these two women. Thank you in advance, Joanne in CA at erictem@earthlink.net

    1. [OHADAMS] 136 vols DAR records free to research on-line
    2. For 9 more days, www.ancestry.com is allowing non-members to research, free, all 136 vols of D.A.R.records. I was a dues paying member of www.ancestry.com last year, and used it almost daily. This year,I 'm using only the free databases [books] they add daily. Except at holidays, when they open everything up free, this 136 vols is the greatest amount of data to be viewd free. I'm a known critic of the old [50-100 years ago] DAR data. But most of it's good data. Like the LDS'S IGI,view with a critical eye. ENJOY! I have no ties to www.ancestry.com,or the D.A.R. or S.A.R. ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it.
