    3. Yes, but where can we find the abstracts that were mentioned... or is that the same thing? I have heard that Chalkley left out a lot of stuff in the final books he wrote... and that someone wrote a book regarding that and it may include the missing data???? Anybody know???? Thomas E. 1. [OHADAMS] PENNYWITT Research in Adams County, Ohio
    2. Randal W Cooper
    3. Dear Researchers of the Adams County, Ohio Mailing List, All of the PENNYWITT men of Monroe Township, Adams County, Ohio were large and muscular, and their combined strength doubtless exceeded that of any other family of equal numbers in southern Ohio. As to their physical development the PENNYWITTs constituted perhaps the most remarkabler family that Adams County has produced, delighting in feats of strength. John PENNYWITT was a giant in stature and could carry two barrels of flour at once, one under each arm. So wrote Evans and Stivers in their 1900 History. Reuben PENNYWITT, born 31 May 1817 on Gift Ridge, Monroe Township, Adams County, Ohio, married Miss Jane COOPER of Brown County, Ohio, 3 Apr 1839. Jane COOPER PENNYWITT was born Sept 1816 and was still living in 1900. Can you help me learn more about her? Mark PENNYWITT married Sarah COOPER. One of their children was Wiley Daniel PENNYWITT, who was born 26 Sep 1861, three miles above Manchester, in Adams County. Mark PENNYWITT died 18 Jun 1885, in Adams County. If you are researching the PENNYWITT surname [with its variant spellings of PENNYWEIGHT, PENNIWIT, PENNYWAITE, PENEWAIT, BENNYWITT, etc.], or, better, if you can help me identify the parents of Jane COOPER and Sarah COOPER, please contact me, either privately or via the List. I will be grateful for any help received. Thank you, and I wish you much success in your own research, as well! Randal W. Cooper Lorain, Ohio

    1. [OHADAMS] Good resource-"Cronicles of the Scotch-Irish in Augusta Co,VA
    2. Very mis-named title of Chalkely's Cronicles of the Scotch -Irish in Augusta Co,Va" might be keeping some of you from a most valuable resource. 1 ,It's Clalkley's abstracts of the records found in the court house at Staunton,Augusta Co,Va. Maybe [?] 50% of the people mentioned are Scotch-Irish. I suppose the dates are 1740's-1800. Fine, you say,I didn't have anybody in Augusta Co,Va. But it was once huge. 1775 it included sw Pa and Pittsburg. Vol 2 is ,in part, Va District court land suits, whose records were stored in that courthouse. Va "DISTRICT" Court land suits of 1740's-1800 ! The state of WV was formed,in large part, from that "DISTRICT"!. My people were involved in a squabble over land in 1773 on the Ohio RIVER WV northern panhandle-Weirton WV- that resulted in a 1798 "DISTRICT" LAND COURT suit, and,1798, my people, then at Boonesboro,Ky, gave recorded depositions! Hundreds of miles between Staunton,Va,Weirton,WV,AND BOONESBORO,KY ,PLUS 25 years. Chalkley's Cronicles are on-line, in part,or in total. I used them last year daily for a couple months on www.ancestry.com as a duespaying member. But,I have seen Vol 1,of 3 ,for free, and this am ,ran into more. www.usgenweb.com "STATE ARCHIVES SEARCH ENGINE" Set it to Va I ran into parts searching the word convict, but AUGUSTA would be better. Volunteer's are posting the data found on usgenweb.com and they have feelings like anybody. I was searching for a book named [roughly]" "40,000 convicts from 500 ships sold on the Chesapeke" OR 50,000 on 400 ships,or similar. Anyway,I set the state,in turn, for MD,VA,PA,DE,NC,GA,SC.CT, and searched for the word convict, and then convicts, with almost no hits, and at least 1\2 were in the Augusta Co Va records. Had searched for Loyalist and TORY wife not many hits. Anyway,in your search for ancestors, remember the D.A.R. was not for everybody. And not many got off the boat as Royalists escaping CROMWELL,1640-60 IN ENGLAND. Puritan's had been jailed; Quaker's had been jailed; and we were England's penal colony til 1776. Australia replaced us. Not to mention all the slaves, endentured servants, P.O.W,'s and convicts. I'm twice from Dugal McQueen, sold at Baltimore in 1716 after being deported as a P.O.W. captured in battle. He was a 'JACOBITE' ATTEMPTING TO put Catholic JAMES on the British throne instead of the German Hanover. ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Morgan's Raider's passed north of Cincinnati-roughly I-275,and passed thru OWENSVILLE and Williamsburg Clermont .East mainly on RT 32, BUT 1 wing thru Georgetown. Looks like a good books. 1. [OHADAMS] Great site www.usgenweb.com 'STATE ARCHIVES SEARCH ENGINE.
    2. I was just directed to www.usgenweb.com and on the opening screen, without scrolling, I selected 'STATE ARCHIVES SEARCH ENGINE" and arriving there ,I CLICKED at STATE [OHIO for me] and in the blank above,I typed CLERMONT and found Herry howe's " History of Ohio's" Clermont section,in 5 or more sections. I'll bet both Vols of Howe's history are there. I see likemyboat@aol.com has a MCMANN will in Clermont posted and Asheil Page's will. Hartman and Ivin's who witnessed it . I like to repost this kind of data back to the counties, but this is copyrighted,so you must go yourself. Use some imagination what to search for. What did I search for to find the ADAMS cO CEMETARY list? Anyway,it's there, and maybe it's searchable on-line, but I downloaded it in .txt format, and will use my computer's search engine to hunt names,or cemetay's. JAYBIRD'S is there full of cousins. If you "take' or learn data from a source like this, consider also being a 'giver" by up-loading data that you have of interest. Maybe you can't post back to ,say, Ohio chermont, but you could post to FL TAMPA,or whatever you have. likemyboat@aol.com, in what format, and how,did you post your wills. ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. 2. <> I think that lengthy waits are often the case. Family researchers are overwhelming both volunteer and paid staffs everywhere. There are some counties which adamantly refuse to do any research, for a fee or otherwise and do not provide a list of local researchers either. Margaret

    1. [OHADAMS] DAR Application
    2. <<I've been seeing slot about this DAR membership/record. what is this??>> When an individual applied for DAR membership, they had to fill out a lengthy application form and supply proofs that they were descended from the ancestor upon whom they were claiming membership. They also supplied information on themselves -- place & date of birth, name of husband, often whether divorced. For the descendancy, they included birth, (often) death & marriage dates & locations for the parents, grandparents, etc., up to the ancestor. The Ancestry material abbreviates this material and ususally does not include locations. I like to get the application, if I plan to go further in my research, as the locations help me to figure out where to look for records. Margaret
