    1. [OHADAMS] SMITH connections
    2. Eric Templin/erictem
    3. Hi! My proble is sorting out SMITHs---especially before the 1850 census---and even after!!! I'm looking for a William SMITH---do you know why your William DEMENT has the middle name of SMITH? Have you ever wondered and tried to research the reason? Must have been a SMITH there somewhere. The William SMITH I am looking for was related some way toTownley SMITH of Scioto Co, OH. Townley had brothers Joel , John D., sisters Rebecca Mikal (unmarried), Sarah (Hogan), Winifred (Calvert), and possibly other siblings. Most came to Scioto Co. in early 1820s. Deeds, and estate papers mention a William SMITH also. He was either a son or nephew of Townley SMITH. Townley b. around 1782 in Prince William Co., VA., son of Peter SMITH and Elizabeth. Townley SMITH came to Scioto Co in 1817 from Stafford Co, VA. Could one of the William SMITHs be the father of Angeline (SMITH) EDWARDS, born 1815 in VA., , who married Jesse B. EDWARDS in Scioto Co in 1850? (She was the widow of Isaac MCLAUGHLIN and John FREEMAN before marrying Jesse. ) Angeline and Jesse B. named a son William. (Jesse B. was the grandson of Rev War veteran Jesse EDWARDS Sr. of Adams & Scioto Cos. ) Many many SMITH families and lots of William SMITHs in Adams and Scioto Co in the period 1815-on. How can they be sorted out, especially before the 1850 census??? Any info on William SMITH family connections will be appreciated. Thanks, Joanne in CA erictem@earthlink.net ------------------------ > After reading your "post" about the Demint's in Adams Co. ---I checked my >notebook for your names. 3. You can obtain death certificates from the Adams County Health dept. for $1.00 each (death cert. start at 1909) you can email them at hlthdept@bright.net or write them Adams County Ohio Health Dept. 116 W. Mulberry West Union 45693-1568 or phone them at 937 - 544- 5547 You can also obtain death certificates through the Vital Statistics office in Columbus http://www.odh.state.oh.us/directory/directory-f.htm Ask for "uncertified" they are $1.10 each .... although I have heard you can get these for .25 cents You can also obtain death certificates from the Ohio Historical Society.. to search there database of certificates go to http://dbs.ohiohistory.org/dindex/search.cfm One word of advice.... if you do not find the death certificate your seeking in one location - try one of the other sources.... several times I have found what I was looking for at the O.H.S. when the other two places did not have the document....
