    3. "Splitting a gedcom database would be a function of your genealogy software. Check the instruction book,or the Help SECTION of your own genealogy software program. Check the choices available on your genealogy soft ware's choices. I t may be a choice not available until you have clicked the 'make a gedcom' choice. I was very critical of the gedcoms I was getting. They just included names and dates- no locations, and nothing to flesh out the individiuals. After 3-4 years, it came to me,I was seeing only names and dates, because that was the choice I was telling my own software program when I imported a gedcom. The gedcoms I was getting very likely contained much infromation that was not being imported into my own program. I am awaiting an ordered Y2K and Windows version of my old Brother's Keeper program. Family Tree Maker seems to be limiting my choices of adding data. Maybe it's my own habits that I don't feel like breaking. I enter, not just town, but exact location,if I know it. 1. [OHADAMS] Family Tree Maker Question
    2. Hi Listers: I replied privately to the first person who posted this question, but since it's come up again, here's a cut & paste of my reply. To export a GEDCOM for just one line, find the oldest person in the line you want to export. Then go to View and run an Outline Descendant Tree view. With the outline descendant tree on the screen, go to file and Export Individuals in Outline Descendant Tree. The program will walk you though the process. It will ask you where you want to save the file, what type (you want GEDCOM), name, etc. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me directly. Margaret mlsopp@ix.netcom.com

    3. Please reply to list. I am also interested in how to "split" a GEDCOM. After a couple of mistakes (including sending my entire file to World Family Tree) I have deleted my children, my husband and myself, and our parents from my family files. I only publish or distribute information on my grandparents' (all deceased) generation or older. I regret my earlier naivete and I do not appreciate seeing this information imported in other people's files and republished. It should never have happened. Cathy > > Can anyone tell me how to send a GEDCOM file that would only include one > family line?.... 2. HI MARYANN, SAW YOUR MESSAGE IN THE ADAMS CO LIST. I DON'T THINK WM SHIVELEY WAS CATHOLIC...BUT UP TO A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO THERE WAS A SHIVELY MINISTER AT SUNSHINE RIDGE CHURCH...PROBABLY SON OR GRANDSON OF YOUR REV. SHIVELEY, AS I'M PRETTY SURE SHIVELEYS HAVE HAD SEVERAL MINISTERS IN THEIR FAMILIES. MY COUSIN GOES TO THAT CHURCH OFTEN...IF YOU WOULD LIKE I CAN WRITE HER AND ASK IF HE IS STILL PASTOR THERE....AND IF YOU ARE THE PERSON, WHO A FEW DAYS AGO, REQUESTED INFORMATION CONCERNING WHERE SUNSHINE RIDGE CEMETERY (ADAMS CO.) IS, I CAN PROBABLY GET THAT INFORMATION FOR YOU ALSO, AS MY AUNT, UNCLE, AND SOME COUSINS ARE BURIED THERE...I HAVE BEEN THERE,(AS A CHILD) BUT HAVE FORGOTTEN EXACTLY HOW TO GET THERE OR DESCRIBE THE LOCATION. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO WAIT FOR SNAIL MAIL TO CRAWL BACK AND FORTH FOR YOUR INFORMATION,,,,AND WE WILL MAKE A TRY AT GETTING IT FOR YOU..... GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR SEARCH........PAT IN AZ.

    2. I hope this is appropriate for the mail list. If not, I apologize and please send me a personal e-mail message instead of posting to the mailing list. Can anyone tell me how to send a GEDCOM file that would only include one family line? I have a large data base of names with both my husband's line and mine combined. I do not want to include the entire database with all the family lines--just one family name. I want to make sure that I send the GEDCOM properly. Also, what is your opinion of privatizing names of living descendants with dates, etc. when sharing genealogy information? Thanks for any help you can give me.

    3. Dear Wilma, I was delighted to hear from you! (Response delayed by Christmas labors.) Thanks very much for the obituary. There is definitely at least one connection between us, but it seems not directly through "my" Bakers--the Jesse Stockwell Baker I mentioned in my post (my gggrandmother's brother) married a Sarah Baker (no relation, as far as we know), who was the daughter of your Thomas Baker and Nancy (Glaze) Baker. Wish one could draw diagrams in e-mails! Your post presented me with a whole new idea. I had assumed that Jesse and family might have followed Jesse's sister Lucy Baker Short to Adams Co., but now I also see a very likely possibility that they went to Adams Co. in a group with Jesse's wife's relations. I know they went between 1850 (Hampshire Co. census) and 1860. I have just found William Short in the census index (Ancestry.com, free for the holiday season) for Adams Co. for 1840 and 1850--Winchester Twp--but not Jesse Baker (must go back and check Highland Co.). My information on both Jesse Baker and William and Lucy Short comes from other researchers, one of whom (Jesse Baker's descendant) seems to have dropped out of sight. I have pasted e-mails from these two researchers at the end of this post--perhaps you will be able to glean something from them. Note that in the Short info there is also a Glaze connection. These families seem to have been thoroughly intertwined, as I see two Short marriages in your obituary. I have only just begun investigating the Adams Co. connections, but have already done some research on Hampshire Co. (where my line of Bakers remained), and own a few books of Hampshire Co. resources. There are quite a few mentions of Conrad Glaze, Sr. and Jr., who I think must be an ancestor of yours--given all these Conrad Bakers. The Glaze family seems to have been well established in Hampshire Co. This is all coming out a little muddled. I will try to put my own Bakers into some sort of order: The furthest I know is: Peregrine Baker, b. 1779, d. 22 Sept 1847, m. Deborah Stockwell, b. 1781, d. 22 Aug. 1847. Peregrine is on the Hampshire Co. tax lists from 1802, and on the census from 1810-1840. They had at least these three children: 1. Nancy Baker (my g-g-grandmother), b. May 27, 1802, d. June 11, 1850. She married Charles WALL (I think they lived in Bedford Co., PA, but still working on that) June 30, 1830, had 3 sons very quickly. He died in 1834, and by 1840 (census) she was back in Hampshire Co. with her three boys. On Aug. 27, 1843, she married Jacob GRENZEBACK, my g-g-grandfather--their only surviving child was Benjamin Franklin Grenzeback, my g-grandfather. All these names and dates are in our old family bible record, but unfortunately without places. However, Nancy, two of her Wall sons who died young, and one Grenzeback daughter who died young are all buried in a little family graveyard near Springfield, Hampshire Co. 2. Lucy Baker. Married William Short July 31, 1827 (Hampshire Co. marriage bonds). William Short is on the Hampshire Co. census for 1830 only. The Short researcher quoted below is the one who told me they moved to Adams Co., where apparently they had various Short relatives. I think they had children, but don't know anything about them yet. 3. Jesse Stockwell Baker, b. June 26, 1817, d. Aug. 18, 1907 (Adams Co.), m. (March 6, 1841) Sarah Ann Baker (the Baker descendant, Anne Huber, says she was not related to Jesse, but I have not checked up on this), b. Sept. 3, 1808, d. Apr 22, 1896 (Adams Co.). They had the 4 children I mentioned, Thomas David, John William, Franklin Jesse, and Sarah Ellen. (See Anne Huber's e-mail below). Well, this is getting rather lengthy. Although Lucy and Jesse Baker are not my direct lines, I'm hoping I might find some descendants who can help me with Peregrine and Deborah's families (Anne Huber was able to give me Deborah Baker's maiden name, Stockwell, but otherwise she too knows little...). I hope some of this will be useful to you--I will also be happy to look up some things in my Hampshire Co. books, if you are interested! Best wishes and happy holidays, Martha Grenzeback graymatters@ibm.net **************************************************************************** **************************** Here are e-mails concerning Shorts and Bakers: >From Glenn Smith: "Somewhere in my boxes, I think I have a photocopy of the will and estate settlement of Isaac Short as outlined below: Wills: Short, Isaac - 1 Mar. 1823; pro. 20 Mar. 1826. wife-Martha, 3 children; John, William and Richard. 3. Martha, I also have Bakers from Adams and Highland Co. My grgrandfather Conrad Baker lived for a while at Mowreystown, Highland Co., which is near the Adams Co. line. He was a son of Conrad Baker Sr., supposedly a son of Thomas Baker and Nancy (Glaze) Baker. Conrad Baker jr., who lived at Mowreystown, had a sister in Adams Co., Mary E. Baker Barrick. An aunt (now deceased, years ago sent me an original of the Mowreystown paper's obituary. I've recently been scanning it, as the original is in pretty bad shape. Here it is: Enjoy! The following biographical information was excerpted from Mary Barrick's obituary, published in the Mowreystown Weekly Independent, Wednesday, November 21, 1906. The rest of the obituary contained praise of her godliness, and a photo. "Mrs. Mary E. Baker Barrick was born in Hampshire County, West Virginia, Jan 8th, 1828, and died at her home in Emerald, Adams County, Ohio, Nov. 2nd, 1906, aged 78 years, 9 months, 24 days. Her parents, Conrad G. To them were born the following children: Nancy, wife of William Caldwell, deceased; Mary E., wife of John Barrick, deceased; Hannah, wife of Nathan Ingraw, deceased; Elizabeth, wife of Newton Lauth, living in Virginia; Margaret, living near Winchester; Conrad G. Baker, living near Winchester; Ivy, wife of John Short, living near Winchester; Sara A., widow of Robert Wallace, living near Winchester; Rebecca, wife of Jas. Adams, near Winchester. Jan. 14, 1849, the subject of this sketch was united in marriage to Mr. John F. Barrick and with him moved to Ohio in 1858. To them were born seven children; Geo. E., living at Emerald; Alzena Va., wife of Rev. Sanford Burba, of Emerald; Clara O., wife of Geo. C. Short, near Emerald; Ellen M., wife of Jacob Stroop, near Emerald; Rebecca Ann, deceased; one dying in infancy. Mr. Barrick died in the army in 1862 and since that time the deceased has fought life's battles without the counsel and help of husband. Her death at that time bereaved one brother, five sisters, one son, 4 daughters, 5 grandchildren, and a large circle of friends holding her in the highest esteem." I don't know where Emerald is/was. One correction to the above info: Conrad G. Baker's middle name was Glaze, his mother's maiden name. His son Conrad's middle name was Washington, not "G.". Have a very happy holiday season!
