Hi, Can anyone tell me where I can find death records for Adams County? I have checked the Ohio Historical website for the certain years they have. Where would I check for records after 1937? Thanks for your help, Janet
Hi Paula, Thanks for the offer, but I live in Nashville. The shipping would probably kill me. Hopefully enough people will want the CD version of the Census records and I can use the CD. If I get the CD, you can have my film! Thanks again for the offer.

Through out the years I have been abstracting Adams County, Ohio Land Deeds... these are in no particular order and are of various surnames... Hello All, Does anyone know the parentage of Walter Scott Williamson of Peebles. I found the cemetery incription of he and his wife, but can't seem to find his parents information due to the lost records of the county. Their daughter Elsie Adaline Williamson Sparks was my gg-grandmother. Married John Howard Sparks. Thanks for your help in advance and best of luck in your research. Carl Sparks
Hello Betty, Just wanted to confirm that I signed up for the CD version of 1850 Scanned Census records. I'm transcribing that for the Census Project. The bad news is that my hard drive crashed a few months ago and I lost all my work. I know, I know, you should have backed-up your work. I was living in a fantasy world that said those bad things only happen to other people. Anyway, I've got to start over, and I could get a lot more done if I were at home using the CD rather than the Archives Library here in Nashville. I own the film, but don't have anything to read it on. I guess I'm saying...if the CD records would be beneficial to you, please order the CD. We still need another 20 or so people before they'll start the work. Thanks for bringing this to our attention Betty. Carl Sparks Census Project Volunteer and Adams County List Member
For many years I have been seeking the family of Nancy Holloway who married Absalom Edgington 24/25 July 1816 Adams County OH. For those of you also still looking, her family has been found in Clark County KY. Nancy was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Hudson) Holloway of Caroline County VA and Clark County KY. She appears as Nancy Edgington in her father's 1823 will proven in Clark County KY. She and Absalom also sold to her brother Spencer Noel Holloway her share in her father's estate 8 November 1823 [Clark County KY Deed Book 20:3-4]. This apparently explains the name of their son Spencer Edgington. For those interested in her family, there is a 20-page account contained in Marilyn J. Hill Craig's just-released *Some Hill Families of Monroe County, Missouri*. How Absalom and Nancy met and courted remains an open and interesting question. Best wishes to you all. I know that my ancestor Hezekiah Merritt met his two brothers in Manchester in 1795. They were asked by Col. Nathaniel Massie to join his survey group that was going up the Scioto to lay out the town of Chillicothe. Later Hezekiah settled in what is now Lucasville. I do not know what became of the two brothers or what their names were. He came from Wash. Co., Pennsylvania to meet them with his wife Rachael Anderson and the first five of his (to be 13 )children. How can I find out what Merritts were in Manchester in 1800? Then maybe I can work backwards from there. Eda L. Rumer Bobo
Hope I am not intruding, but wonder if I could inquire if there would be any mention in these books of the surname McMAHAN... it is my understanding that a John or James McMahan/McMahon was a Methodist circuit rider in Adams County or surrounding areas about 1780s to early 1800s. The LDS Family History Centers have index books for almost ALL of the states for the 1850 census. OHIO included. If you can identify your person, it gives the county, and TOWNSHIP and page number that they are enumerated on. Then you could order that township. It works unless you have a common name shared with hundreds of other families in OHIO-----like Smith or Jones. I'm looking for the parents of Angeline SMITH around 1830 in Adams or Scioto Cos. She was born about 1811-15 in VA acctording to census. Just an idea. Hi Everyone, I my last communication about the Twp. Censuses that the Adams Co. Gene. Soc. publictions, I for got to include that the Gene Soc. publications do have an index., which the CD will not. The Gene. Soc. by selling these publications they are able to purchase additional books and micro film, which is free to the public, at the Soc. location. The society will do lookups and mail copies of pages on most of the books and records that they archive. I really feel that Adams Co. has the best group of volunteers that have been harvesting research info for decades. Info that would have been lost due to age and lack of storage space. I have been benefiting from them for years and have purchased several of thier publications for home use. If you ever get a chance to visit the Soc., do not pass up the opportunity. You would not believe what they can store in a small building. They will try to accomodate you, if you are from out of town and it is not normal visiting hours. The Soc. is supported by the sale of these publications and membership dues. Here is a link to the Soc. Webpage if you would like to see what is available. http://www.zoomnet.net/~chipmunk/OHAdams/adsoclst.html Thanks Betty Lou Riley In Southern OH, USA List Owner for: OHAdams-L, KYLewis-L, Rideout-L, McGovney-L and Wild-Birds-L Instructions at: <http://www.zoomnet.net/~chipmunk/SurnamesMail.html> CC: Temp.OH - Adams Co., CCA:KY - Lewis Co. S&K publishcations will not scan and of the Adams Co, OH 1850 census until the have 23 people commit to ordering the CD. When they have 23 orders they will scan the entire Adams Co., OH 1850 census on to a CD Then S&K will charge our credit cards for the CD and mail each person that ordered one, a CD. Then S&K will send a free CD, to the USGenWeb. USGenWeb can then put the census online, where it will be free to access, by other researchers.
