Can anyone tell me where I can locate a book titled "The Hoffer's of Hoffer Hill"? My aunt traveled to one of the libraries there and was not able to locate a copy. My great -grandmother was Ivy Ellen Hoffer and grew up in that area. She married into the Murphy family from Adams County.(her husband was Charles Oscar Murphy, whom she married in 1906). Any information would be greatly appreciated. Angela Hudson

Janet, The Adams Co. Genealogical Society has both on Microfilm and some that has been abstracted into books. We're located at the Heritage Center in West Union. We have census records for Adams Co. from 1790 - 1920 and we have newspapers from the early 1900's and in the Adams County Recorder they quote the "Scion of Temperance", 50 years earlier in the 1800's. We're open Thursday & Saturday, 12:00 - 4:00pm Thanks, Delsey Knoechelman Adams Co. Genealogical Soc., Vice President & Newsletter Editor
Hello Janet The Ohio Historical Society http://www.ohiohistory.org/ has a list of newspapers on microfilm by county that are available for interlibrary loan or purchase. Adams County Genealogical Society has all of the census available for purchase - broken into townships - so unless you have a good idea of the township your kin lived in it can get expensive. Email me if you want a telephone number. Joining the org is the best thing to do - for 10.00 a year you get free queries and a great newsletter. Address is Adams County Genealogical Society, P. O. Donna, Point Cemetery is just north of Rome. From U.S. 52, take county road 18-A north (Blue Creek Rd.) to county road 9-A (West Fork Rd.), turn left (west) to road T-2008, Point Cemetery Road, where you take a left down to the cemetery. Good luck in your searching. Hi, My Dunkin ancestors also lived in Washington Co, Pa and are found in the 1790 census, they then moved to Adams Co, Ohio and where there by 1810-1830. At that time they moved on to Fountain Co, Indiana. I strongly suspect they got there suppliestogether and loaded them on to flatboats at Maysville, Kentucky. they then went down the Ohio, up the Wabash to what is now Independence Station Indiana...they named it Maysville, Indiana then. I have found some Kerr folks mentioned in the History of Fountain County... Samuel Kerr is mentioned as being the son of a Josiah Kerr. One of them was the "respectable preacher" in the christian church.. It also states that Samu el Kerr son of Josiah Kerr is one of the most susccessfull farmers and largest land owners. Barzillai Ker deceased some two years since, one of Richland's (township) greatest men. It seems to me that I remember seeing some Kerr headstones at the Salem Cemetary in Davis township Fountain County, Indinana when I visited there. I don't know if these folks are yours . To all Dement Researchers, Did any of you know that James Dement is buried in West Union, Ohio Cemetery? I did'nt know where he was buried and I checked all my information for him and did not find a burial place listed. My husband's cousin found the following and sent it to me. Source; Adams Co., Ohio Village Cemetery; West Union, Ohio. (page 30). Held in Portsmouth Library/Adams Co., Historical Society. JAMES DEMENT; born 7, September 1790; died 5, July 1865. No copy of his wife's headstone listed. Carleene (Olds) Roe Kettering, Ohio carleeneroe@prodigy.net
I am researching the RANSOPHER (ROUNSAVELL) surname. Specifically, a Quick Rounsavell moved from Hunterdon County, New Jersey to Muskingum County, Ohio in the early 1800s. He died there in or around 1806. I am trying to determine exactly who his children were. I believe that he had two children, Aaron RANSOPHER (1807-Jan 12 1876) and James RANSOPHER (Mar 16 1809-Feb 14 1876) but I have not proven this yet (although the dates do not match exactly).. There is an estate record for a Quick Rounsifer who died in 1806 in Muskingum County, Ohio, Will Book A, page 38, case #9. He died without a will and his nearest next of kin was listed as a James Milford and his wife Christianna who relinquished their rights to the letter of administration to the estate. I have also found a Quick ROUNSAVAL is listed on page 261 in "SIMS Index to Land Grants in West Virginia" as having 30 acres in Wilkin's Mill Run in 1796, Book 1, Page 431. He is listed along with a Benjamin Rounsaval (probably his father). A "Mrs. Ann Rounsover", aged 30, is listed as marrying Benjamin Norman in 1817 in Coshocton County, Ohio. She is probably the widow of a Rounsavell, as she is listed as "Mrs." not "Miss". Perhaps she could be the widow of Quick Rounsavell who died in 1806 and they could be the parents of Aaron and James who were orphaned at a young age in the same general area of Ohio? At a sale of Benjamin Norman held in December of 1826, Aaron Rounsifer purchased several items of farm equipment which indicates that there was some relationship between Ann and Aaron. It is assumed that Quick Rounsavell is the father of Aaron and James Ransopher, due to the fact that he moved to the same area of Ohio were Aaron and James were born. Furthermore, he died right around the time of their births which may explain why they were "bound" children who were raised with other families and also why they never knew their father. This is purely speculation but seems like a logical choice. But why did Aaron and James get bound out when Ann was still alive at the time of Quick's death in 1806? I am hoping that someone may be able to provide me with more insight into this situation.
