This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YYB.2ACI/949.1128 Message Board Post: Hello Daivid (my brother's name). Bear with me.... I can't link past my Benjamin Franklin Abbott b. 1812 who married Caroline Willis. He was b. in NC. Ben had one son, that I know of, William Augusta Abbott b. 1837 m. Nancy Jane Weems. I also have the Briggs line. (Scottish for Bridges). I find this interesting because Bridges Creek was Also Pope's Creek at Mt. Vernon. John Pope b. 1695 m. Elizabeth Bridges Pope, b. 1709. Their son, Nathaniel Pope IV, b. 1729 m. Lucy Fox. There is also an Ellizabeth Pierce m. Capt. William Bridges, that also m. Nathaniel Pope, son of Thomas Pope and Joanne Dowle Gatley (b. 1645). Their dau. Elzabeth Bridges Pope m. John Pope. Eliz. b. 1709. So he either married two Elizabeths or they are the same person? OK...I have a Nathaniel F. Abbott m. Ellizabeth Oliver on 2-17-1885, Blount, TN. This is a stray one that I collected since I have Olivers in my lines, as well. Also, I have a Nathaniel Pope, Jr. that married Jane Browne, b. 1675. He also m. Lucy Luce. The Browne line...goes into my Butler/Washington line. This is joined with the Pope/Bridges line at Elizaabeth Bridges Pope b. 1709 m. John Pope (father of Nathaniel IV.) My Olivers marry into the Abbott line in 1800's, so it may be the same family. Nancy Jane Weems (above) m. William A. Abbott. Nancy's parents are John Russom Weems, b. 1816, TN m. Mary Ann Oliver, dau. of Alexander Oliver and Jane Killough. William Augusta Abbott's son is Silas Abbott m. Martha Ann Layne. Silas's son is Ralph William Abbott m. Birdie Briggs. These are my grandparents. This is the Scottish Briggs line. However I also have the British Briggs line of Henry Briggs who married Mary Flood. The same Mary Flood that was married many times, and to Col. John Washington. Col. John joins my mother's line at Augustine Washington (also a Willis line). My mother and father's families cross so many times it gets confusing. They share READE/MILLER/WASHINGTON/LEWIS/WILLIS, etc. My mother's lines include: McCormick, Terrill to Mildred Warner. The Henry Briggs line and the Scottish line of Briggs, I believe is either one and the same, or I have two lines, one Brit., one Scot. and then there is the possibility that they changed their name to Bridges when they came to America. If you have ANY families in the Willis/Washington lines this may solve some Abbott mysteries. NOW, I am collecting assorted Abbott lines trying to somehow find SOMEONE who is related. :) There is a Nehemiah Abbott b. 1667 m. Abagail Lovejoy. Their dau, Mary Abbott m. James Bridges. I don't have a link to him either, but keeping him just in case. The Lovejoy line is the OK families. They share two surnames with my mother's lines, Haynes and Triplett. Tripletts can be found in the Miller line and Hord line. A Caroline Haynes who maried James Monroe Triplett (OK line) also married a Barnabus Bass Abbott. There is another Abbott line that is in the 1600s MD area. They filter into the Custis/Justice line. Which also goes to Washiington through Custis. Can't link it except through maternal Custis, but it does link. So, all the Pope lines give me notice since Col John Washington who m. Mary Flood, and so did Henry Briggs. AND Col. John Washington also m. Anne Pope. Col John Washington's son, Lawrence Washington m. Mildred Warner and Elizabeth Denwood. Mildred K. Washington m. John Lewis, Rodger Gregory, and third, Col. Henry Willis (whom I descend from on both of my parent's lines). AND Col. Henry Willis was m. before to Mildred Lewis (cousin to Mildred K. Washington) and Anne Alexander. Mildred the cousin is dau. of John Lewis, Jr. and Elizabeth Warner. Martha Dandridge Custis m. George Washington. His father is Augustine, and his aunt is, Mildred Washington. If any of this ends up in your area, I would be sooooooo happy! Nobldy in Abbott research is related to me so far.

David Bradford who opened the famous Bradford Tavern in 1807. It lists that he was born in PA in 1765, was married to Barbara Grimes, and died in 1834 at age 69. It also says he was the David Bradford who was involved in the Whiskey Insurrection. However, history books about this incident say the famous David Bradford who was associated with the Whiskey Rebellion escaped to Louisiana and died in 1808 in New Orleans at age (approx) 48.
