So, Mary Margaret Kates (m. Archabald Brooks) and Barbara Ellen Thatcher (m. James Norris Kates) would have been sisters-in-law? My records show that James Norris Kates was my ggrandmother's older brother and that their parents were William Kates (1810-1889) and Catherine Rader (1823-1890). Jim, do you have additional info about the Kates and Rader families? Mary Jo Brooks Reding

Hiram, son of Samuel lived in various OH counties as a farm hand. We think he met Louisa Pingley, the woman he marries while working as a farm hand next door to Louisa's sister, Mary Conner. He and his brother Robert are both in Clinton one census, don't know if they lived near each other off hand. Elizabeth Zurface lives next door to her brother Robert in 1880. Hiram died in 1888, living in Banks Township, Antrim CO MI. He is buried in the old Antrim Cem. On an old msg you posted, you quoted info from sibling Margaret's obit in Feb 1913. Do you know her married name and where she died? How wonderful that you knew so many of the Rogers. Are you related to the Rogers? through whose line? Jeanne
Unfortunately the names of the parents were not included on OH death records until 20 Dec 1908. There may be some exceptions, especially if the deceased was an infant or a very young child. Hello, It sounds as if you are just starting on your family tree research. Have you done any record checking on this line already such as census records, or death certificate (possibly one in 1913, not required until 1914)? Census records are a great place to start your research, after talking to any living kin you can find. Work your way back starting at 1910 for John Richard Robibns. Bringing his descendants forward, you can check 1920, 1930 censuses. (There are only partial records existing for 1890, due to fire). View several pages in front of your Robbins entry and several pages after, looking for related folks living near by. Are you familiar with the website ancestry.com? Free and paid records. Also, familysearch.com by the Mormon church has free record information plus "trees" online, also good to check for birth, marriage records. Some of the hits are transcriptions of actual records, others are supplied by individuals and aren't verified for accuracy. Both sites are good starting places to check for family trees that other researchers have posted. You can verify information posted through your own research, at least it gives you clues on where to search and might put you in contact with "cousins". also usgenweb.com has web pages set up for all 50 states, organized by counties, records transcribed by volunteers. Adams Co Ohio is a good helpful site. I went to ancestry.com and typed John Richard in first name slot, Robbins in the last name. There appear to be some online trees (free access) for him and his children. Remember, it's a good idea to verify the informaton posted through your own research. You can email the individual also. Maybe you are cousins, although some times the tree is for a collateral line. I hope these sites help you with your search. Good luck, Jeanne >From: Betty <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [OHADAMS] Fwd: Robbins or Robins family tree >Date: Mon, 28 Jul 2003 06:34:52 -0400 > > >>Date: Sun, 27 Jul 2003 08:37:04 -0600 >>X-From_: [email protected] Sun Jul 27 08:37:04 2003 >>From: "Robbins" <[email protected]> >>To: <[email protected]> >>Subject: Robbins or Robins family tree >>Old-Date: Sun, 27 Jul 2003 10:35:37 -0400 >>X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1158 >>X-Diagnostic: Unprocessed >>X-Envelope-To: OHADAMS-D-request >>X-pstn-levels: (C:79.6536 M:99.5542 P:95.9108 R:95.9108 S:17.5995 ) >>X-pstn-settings: 3 (1.0000:2.0000) pmCr >>X-pstn-addresses: from <[email protected]> >> >>I am looking for my family tree the name is John Richard Robbins . It's my privilege to be managing it, and I hope to be very busy adding family group sheets submitted by all of you. The URL for the page is http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/ohio/. I think you'll find the page easy to read and use, but if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. The USFGS home page (http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/) links to all the states that have a family group project. I hope you'll take advantage of this new project. Those of us who have been working to bring it to Ohio are very excited about its possibilities. Any family group that lived in Ohio, even for a short time, can be posted. THE ONLY OHIOANS WHO CANNOT BE POSTED ARE THOSE WHO ARE LIVING. Each family group sheet provides space for basic information about father, mother, and children; so if you only know about one family unit, you know enough to put the information up. If you know more, you can add more family group sheets: the father's parents and siblings, the mother's parents and siblings, the children's spouses and children, and on and on. If you've traced the family on into Kansas, Colorado, and Oregon, you can post your group sheet in those states as well as Ohio. But just one family sheet in one state can be enough to make new and exciting connections. We've prepared the pages and forms, added search engines and links, and now it's in your hands. Send in your family group sheets. One a day, one a week, whatever works for you. Tell your fellow researchers about the site. Talk about it at your next genealogical society meeting. Mention it in your emails. The more people hear about the site, the more contributions we're likely to get; and the more contributions we receive, the more valuable the project is going to be. I'll be waiting for your family to turn up in my mailbox! Kristina Kuhn Krumm Columbus, OH Homepage: http://kriskuhn.net Web"mistress" for OhGenWeb Wyandot County, Ohio FGS Project Ohio and Wisconsin
