I have not come upon Collings as a variant, but then I only have one name to go on and that in Mary Etta Collins the wife of John Handy Cannon. I do have a very promising lead though. John and Mary marrried in Knox County Illinois and a person did a look up in the 1850 census for me there. There is a person just a few doors down from them by the name of Frances Collins a 50 year old woman listed with a daughter named Sarah 15 or 16 years old. The thing that is so promising about this lead is that one of John and Mary's daughters is names Sarah Frances. The only problem is how to verify that Frances Collins is her mother, and then who is her father. Anyway. Thats all I have. Thanks.

This is Homer's line with some uncertainty! 1 Homer MATHENY (1898 - 1971) 2 John C. Jesse MATHENY (1867 - ) 4 John W. MATHENY (ca. 1845 - ) 8 John C. MATHENY (1822 - aft. 1900) 16 Charles MATHENY (2) (1793 - ca. 1870) 32 Jesse MATHENY (1761 - aft. 1860) ... NOTE!! The connection of Charles with Jesse and then James Matheny is still being researched. This is the best information I have at this time. Neil

He also had a son named John Collins Matheny, and I know of a second man of a different family, same time, named John Collins Matheny. I am wondering if there is a connection between these two surnames. My Daniel had sisters that I haven't found, do you know of any Mathenys in your Collins line? (These Mathenys had come out of the Berkeley Co VA area 50 years before.)
I do not know ? But I am sure that all Zumwalts are cousins. My mother-in-law's grandmother was Cynthia Zumwalt who m James Walker Harpole and they came to Oregon in the 1850ies. He had crossed the plains with his first wife Matilda who died... He went back living his children in Oregon and came with cattle and married Cynthia.. The wives were cousins.
