    3. You would probably find these listed in the Peoples Defender... I have abstracted some issues - there on my web site - at http://www.geocities.com/cheroke7_98/genealogy.html Sherry ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] My family lived on a farm just outside of Winchester but they were in Brown Co. and not Adams. I had two great aunts (Nora and Ottis Nevin) who died in the Flu epidemic in February 1920. They were buried (supposedly) in the Winchester Cemetery by Earl Keyes, Cherry Fork. I looked at the Georgetown Newspaper but I could not find any mention of them. I was wondering, since they lived so close to Winchester (Adams County) if there would be another newspaper that they used in those days. Does anyone out there know what newspaper the citizens of Winchester read back then? Thanks, Steve Bradenton, FL --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 2. Hope this helps. I found in the Adams Co. Cemetery book. Information was furnished by Mr. Dole and he did extensive reseach on on some family and compiled a book " Notes on Five Pioneer Families of Sprigg Township, Adams Co. So you might want to order that book from Adams Co, Genelogy society. Moore, Joseph, "sacred to the memory of", late peacher of the Gospel who departed this life 9 Nov. 1824 70yrs 5 months Rebecca, " sacred to the memory of" consort of Rev. Moore, who departed this life 21 Aug. 1833 in the 79th year of herage. .They were buried in Moore Burial Lot ( Watson Farm South of U.S. 52)and later removed to Manchester Cemetery. It has been reasonably established that Joseph Moore was the Methodist minister in the Morthwest Territory, having started a Methodist Society near Blue Creek, 1797. He built a log church in 1800. 1830 Adams Co. Census Jefferson Twp. Adams Co. Moore, Aaron Males Under 5 1 5-10 1 10-15 2 30-40 1 females under 5 1 5-10 2 10-15 1 30-40 1 Eileen

That way if I did happen to be able to hook into it I would have that much more information. My Collins line to this point has been a bit of a brick wall. I am hopeful with the lead about Mary Etta Collins possible mother. There is a Frances Collins a few doors down from Mary and John Cannon on the 1850 census for Knox County Illinois. This Frances is age 50 and listed with a daughter Sarah age 15 or 16. What makes this lead seem so promising is that Mary and John named one of there daughters Sarah Frances. Now considering that the names Sarah, Frances, and Collins are not uncommon it is possible that it could be a coincedince. But then again that would be an uncanny coincedince if it was one. The tough part is that I don't know about the father, and knowing who her father was is a major needed key. Until I know that I probably will have know way of knowing if our lines connect or not. So go ahead and send your info, but it may! be awhile before I can discover if our lines connect or not. Thank you. Sara

I got a message the other day from someone else regarding Collings in Adams county. It was then I saw that you had made a post ealier in the year regarding the Collings variant. Thats how this thread got opened up again. I am particularly interested in the Collins line since I have so little on it. There seems to be plenty of people working on the Cannon line, but I haven't run into anyone whos really working on cracking this Collins line. I think the Frances Collins lead is promising, but I don't know how to verify it yet. I have looked a little to see if the Frances Collins could have followed Mary and John to Texas, but haven't come up with anything yet. Anyway thats what is up with that. Thanks.

Surnames: Morrison McGarrah Sphar Young Dunkin Marvin Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.families.aol.com/mbexec/msg/4300/YYB.2ACI/1647 Message Board Post: I wanted to share some Adams Co-related info on McGarrah & Morrison families I found recently and invite others to do likewise. In Jefferson Co. OH Record of Wills Book #1, pp. 48-49, I found the will of Henry McGarrah, recorded in 1807. I'm sure this is the Henry McGarrah who was paying taxes just across the Ohio River in Washington Co. PA in the 1780's. In it, he leaves $100 ($1538 in 2003 dollars) to his son James McGary, $20 ($308 in 2003 dollars) to each of two named grandsons, and the rest to be divided between his sons and daughters -- William McGary, John McGary, Mary Ramsy, and Jane Morrison. The two named grandsons are Henry McGary son of William and Henry Morrison son of Jane. He then adds another bequest of $20 to a grandson Henry McGary son of James. He also allots money for a headstone, but I haven't located it yet. In the text he uses the spelling "McGary", but the title of the will and an attestation at the bottom use "McGarah". I'm pretty certain that his son William was the Revolutionary War vet William McGarrah who resided on a tract of land on Cross Creek in Washington Co. PA next to John Morrison the Elder in the 1780's and helped settle Adams County, Ohio, in 1795, and his daughter Jane married John Morrison, Jr., who moved from Cross Creek to Fleming Co. KY in 1790 and then to Adams Co. about 1801 (this John is my ggggrandfather). Both McGarrah and Morrison lived in Tiffin Twp and had sons named Henry. - Bill (William Morrison) Fisher
