My 3g grandfather, Alexander McClain, was a New Light preacher in Byrd township, in eastern Brown county, about 1829-1860. Is there any index of preachers in the Adams county marriage books which might show him? ----- Original Message ----- From: "CJ Skinner" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2004 1:08 PM Subject: Re: [OHADAMS] Adams County Marriage Records > I have the marriage books from Adams County let know what all that you want. > Cheryl J Skinner > Make a Genealogist happy with books from the Belmont County Genealogical > Society! > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohbelogs/pubs.htm > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2004 10:57 AM > Subject: [OHADAMS] Adams County Marriage Records > > > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > > > Classification: Query > > > > Message Board URL: > > > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YYB.2ACI/1668 > > > > Message Board Post: > > > > Would anyone have a copy of the following book: Adams County Marriage > Records, Vol II, 1839-1910, by the Admas County Gen. I have some knowledge of the McCoy family who settled in Mifflin Township, Pike Co. OH The father was Abraham McCoy..The son I know most about was Thomas McCoy who married "Caty" Jordan Sept.4, 1818 in Adams Co, OH Their children, all born in Pike Co. were: John, Abraham, Jane, James, Julia Ann, Sarah L., Thomas. My knowledge of this family is due to the fact I am tracing the early Jordans in Adams/Brown Co....specifically Jane Jordan who married William Marshall, Richard Jordan who married Peggy Maxwell, Martha Jordan who married Stephen Wright and Caty who married Thomas McCoy. I believe that they are all children of the "Caty Jordan, widow" who married Samuel Milligan. Does anyone know more about the "Caty Jordan, widow"? Debbie Harrison, Terrebonne, Oregon

I remembered the name while collecting information on my gggfather and ggfather for the application to the Society of Civil War Families of Ohio; I read a letter from John McCoy Sr. from Pittsburgh Landing (20 March 1862) which mentions;" the Bradfords sons and Arron Watsons boys are in the enjoymnet of good health". John Sr. was in Co. H, 70th OVI. This leads me to believe that he knew neighbors from the Adams Co. area. John Jr. was in Co. F, 3rd. OVI. They were living in Sprigg Twn. during the war. John Sr. Died April 6, 1862 at the Battle of Shiloh. John Jr. lived to muster out with his company in 1864, He was married to Margaret McElmurray. I do not know the exact date of their marriage. Their frist 4 children were born in Sprigg Twn. or Manchester, with William Wallace McCoy born 09 July 1864 (fist child) I know the dates of birth due to obits and death certs. They were then thought to have moved to Portsmouth by 1870-71 according to city directories. If anyone has any information on this Irish family. I would appreciate it.. Especially due to the lose of records by fire in West Union.

I too came across this false posting. The subject line reads something along the lines of "Another Site to Check Your Ancestors." When you open it up, you find some sort of "Dungeons and Dragons" site. If you receive it, just delete it. According to my safeguards, I did not pick up any viruses or worms from it, but all the same don't waste your time. G.
