Surnames: Newman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YYB.2ACI/1896 Message Board Post: I'm just starting out tracing my father's family. Working backwards, my father was Charles Snyder Newman (1931-2003) from Trumbull County, OH (Warren). His father was Clair(Clare?) Newman (1890-1965) who lived in Trumbull County, Ohio and was born in Portsmouth (Scioto County). Clare's parents were John P. (b 1859). & Amy Newman (b 1861) from Portsmouth, OH. I have a letter Clair sent to his mother Amy (my namesake!) in Portsmouth dated 1938. I've also located census records from 1900, 1910 & 1920 to verify this. I believe John & Amy are buried in the Newman Cemetery (Adams County?). Now I am trying to figure out who John P. Newman's parents are. Census records show John P.'s parents were both born in Ohio. Would like to see if anyone can help me confirm they were John (b ~1815) & Ann/Anna/Annie (b ~1820) Newman. 1860 census shows John & Ann had a son named John who was 1 year old. The ages match up but the census is from Adams County not Scioto. That could make sense too because they are neighboring counties. It looks like most of these Newman's were related in this area so I thought I'd try my luck. I could send away for John & Amy Newman's birth certs but still need to figure out how to do that. Thanks to anyone in advance for any help you could give me. Amy (Newman)McKenzie
