Unfortunately, I did not record where I found it. Here's the name & date: Lavina Mathias died 25 Dec 1847 I may well have found the date in one of the Adams Co. cemetery books. The family lived in Meigs Twp. and I have that booklet. I've looked & looked and don't see that entry. I also have the Brush Creek book and don't see it there. Am I overlooking it? Or, could it have been in one of the corrections that came out? Or in another township? Any clues would be appreciated. Thank you. Margaret PS: I see this Adams Co. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YYB.2ACI/1835.2.1.1.1 Message Board Post: The books don't provide a source for the McCarty name, nor as much info as I would like on the McCarty's, but there is some good info there. The head count for Alexander's kids is 8 by my count: Hannah, Hiram, Eli, Isaac, Ames, Aaron, Rebecca, and Moses. The Thompson's Historical Collections can be difficult to get a copy of. Most of the info you want is probably in the first volume (two volume set), which was the more difficult of the two for me to aquire. Sometimes the Adams County Genelogical Society(ACGS) will have these in print. I would recommend checking with them. If they don't have them in print, they will have a copy in their collection you can visit and examine. To truely make these books useful though, you're going to need the index to them that was developed by the ACGS - you can purchase the indexes from them for a small fee. If you've never been to visit the ACGS, I'd highly recommend it. They have a number of very useful resources.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YYB.2ACI/1835.2.1 Message Board Post: Perhaps this will help: Thompson's Historical Collections of Adams County, Ohio Volume I, page 58: Jacob Hempleman, Sr., was born in Mason County, Kentucky, on September 8, 1794, and died July 27, 1857 with burial in the West Union Village Cemetery. He married Hannah McCarty on November 7, 1815. She was the daughter of Alexander McCarty. Alexander's other children were: Hiram, Eli, Isaac, Ames, Aaron, Rebecca, and Moses. Aaron McCarty constructed a certain type of almanac, but we have no other details on this. Moses McCarty, for many years was Commander of the Bologna Arsenal in Virginia. Jacob Sr. and Hannah (McCarty) Hempleman had twelve children, ten who reached adulthood: Cynthia Ann, Jacob Jr., and his twin, Lettitia Jane, Adam George, Isaac L., Hannah Adelaide, Maria L., John J., Aaron W., Moses A., and Rebecca.

Some were salvaged by diligent efforts of certain members in the ACGS, but most were lost. The best source of marriage info for the Adams County, Ohio that I'm aware of are the marriage record books published by ACGS - they include information from all available sources they've been able to dig up - newspapers, church records, remaining court house records, etc. I've not checked my copies of the books, but the origional response from ACGS was probably pulled from those same books. If you've got a lot of ancestors in Adams County, you might want to consider purchasing a set. They're very reasonably priced.

    3. Webb Family brick wall- On your site, I saw several massages with Webb Families. One lady (whose email is not working) mentioned that Webbs, Prices, and another family all intermarried. She had a relative "Sabilla" & we have that as a middle name in our line. We found one on a census in NJ unmarried- correct age to be a sister of our mystery William Webb. In nearby Preble Co., I have found a 1850 census with a Jacob Webb 61 b. NJ, & Wife Nancy 48 b. VA. Older & appears a second marriage. Also listed are 2 adult males Abraham 26, Foster 22 & a Mary 15. Does anyone know about this family? We have a missing father of a William Douglas Webb b. NJ 1813-1821. Father b. in late 1700's. William left home as a teen & worked on ship/ ships for abt. 14 years before settling in AL. A son wrote an old maid sister to let the family know his daddy William was alive. He was told that his father remarried, had more children & 4 of his brothers moved west. Father may have been 1/2 Indian. William had sons named Jacob and Foster. There were others & we have much family lore only. Our Webb DNA shows a potential Cooper & Price connection. Any help appreciated. Debby fullerbb@verizon.net
