Article Text: Piqua, Ohio January 23.--Three members of the family of Harry STEIN and Mr. and Mrs. Ed. H. MEINDERS were overcome by gas fumes from an open coal stove tonight when seated about the room conversing. A little four-year-old child Jeanette, was first overcome, but the parents believed her to be sleeping. The mother of the child finally succumbed and fell from her chair before the nonsmelling fumes aroused the other members. Then Mr. STEIN barely managed to crawl to a window, fighting a fainting spell all of the way. Getting the window open he revived sufficiently to get the other members to the open air. Mrs. STEIN did not recover for hours, while the other members of the family also were in great danger for a time. The little child apparently had stopped breathing, but was revived by a terrific spanking. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ OH-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
