"Dusting Off Memories", the country records preservation project, needs your support! We have recently relocated to the former Mediterranean near Morristown, Ohio which is located in the western section of Belmont County. The new location is accessible to major highways (interstate), restaurants, local libraries, the county seat in St. Clairsville, and Barkcamp State Park. The continuation of this project is imminently in danger as a permanent location continues to be in question. Volunteers have worked diligently on this project to preserve and make accessible the old county records. Some of these records date back to 1801, even before Belmont County was formed. It is important to save these records for future generations. The "Dusting Off Memories" project is a volunteer effort which eventually hopes to become a non-profit organization which will continue to preserve the history of our county. Volunteers clean the massive volumes, catalog, and do research. Western Belmont County has much to offer and the location at the Mediterranean is ideal. The Mediterranean is located on Old Route 40, known as the Old National Road, which is part of Ohio's Bicentennial Highway system. The site offers handicap accessibility, plenty of parking, a relaxed and scenic atmosphere, and best of all, over 6000 volumes of county records.
