GOOD's second son, George, is home for a time from Southwestern Missouri, where he has been successfully engaged in mining for a number of years. He makes his headquarters at Joplin, which is a thriving city claiming 15,000 population, and the center of the lead and zinc mining interests of that entire section, being just across the line from Kansas, close to Indian Territory and not far from Arkansas. Mr. GOOD operates a good sized mine of his own close to Joplin, and in addition is Superintendent of a large mine employing about 200 men not far from Springfield, Mo. This mine is the property of Alton, Ill. capitalists who are organized as the Wilson Creek Mining Co., their land covering the ground upon which the Federals under Generals LYON and SIGEL fought the battle of Wilson's Creek, in which the latter was killed. One of their shafts, in fact, is at the spot where the brave LYON fell and is named after him. Mr. GOOD's stay in the city, depends upon hi! s father's condition, and which, we regret to say, is far from being such as his friends would like to see it. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ OH-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
