Friends & Fellow Citizens The day is near at hand when I hope we shall be able to emerge from this odious, colonial and oppressive temporary government, and embark into a happy, permanent, free, republican and independant one, whose pillars, I sincerely hope, may be the free will of the people. Then we shall be strong, then we shall be free, then we shall have it in our power to purge from among our law-givers the ravenous vultures who wish to pray on the vitals of the good republican spirits and sink them into oblivion, where they will be forever forgotten and remembered no more; and to add another bright, republican link to the brilliant and independent chain of the United States of America, and to enjoy all the rights, liberties, privileges and independence that is justly due to the honorable, the brave, the patriotic, republican, free and independent heroes and their true born sons and posterity, forever The above hint is the true principles I hold respecting government. NATHAN ELLIS N. B. A word of caution. - My fellow citizens, I must entreat you to be cautious, and treat the election fair, as it is a matter of the greatest importance that ever came before us. Let no man lord it over your conscience; neither endeavor to traduce any; try the spirits, hold to that which is good, roust yourselves like men, hold fast in the republican cause of liberty, let your eyes be as penetrating as those of an eagle and your judgement as sound as the Adament stone, for the day of our deliverance I hope is at hand, therefore take heed what you do.
