Article Text: Detroit, Oct 23: Six men drowned in the Detroit River today when the tug America working to free a stranded freighter overturned and sank in 30 feet of water. Seven other crew members leaped into the water and were rescued by a Coast Guard cutter standing by the operations. The victims were below deck asleep and had no chance to escape. The tug America was one of three vessels working to release the Duluth freighter, B. F. Jones, aground off Belle Isle. The tug is owned by the Great Lakes Towing Company of Toledo. Captain Robert Turner, of the Detroit Harbormasters Police said it was reported that the America's propeller fouled the anchor line of the Jones, twisting the tug on its side. The victims are; Frank McPherson of Port Huron, Harry Lamb of Toledo, Raymond Paul , Sault St. Marie, Fred King, Toledo, Nelson Winnie, Toledo, and William DeForest, Sault St. Marie.
