My ggg grandfather was Benjamin Clemens and was born around 1799, so the dates match perfectly. He has been the family "brick wall" for years, as nobody can find his parents. It seems that $100 was paid to the Court of Common Pleas for this guardianship. Although census records show that Benjamin was actually born in PA, we believe that a brother, John, was born in OH. What are the possible circumstances of guardianship at that time? Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks!
