I am referring this to the list in case someone can help Keith. This is beyond my expertise ( if I have one). ----- Original Message ----- From: tpareno Barbara, I have a copy of a deed to the SE Quarter of Section 36 Twp 8 Range 5 East granted to my 3ggrandmother Susannah Veneman on June 24 1816. The property was granted to Susannah from the Federal Government through the Cincinnati Land Office. In the upper left corner there is a number 4897. My request is for information on where I may find the application for her land grant. As a further request can you enlighten me concerning the process used by women in that early date to apply for a land grant. I'm sure that there were some restrictions on women applying for and receiving land in that age of male domination. As back ground, Susannah came to Miami Co. with her father Garrett Veneman and 2 brothers some time after 1807 from Bourbon Co. KY. Susannah was married to ------- Hughes in Ky and gave birth to 2 sons there. When she moved to Miami Co. she assumed her maiden name Veneman. Keith Porter theporter@perrybear.com
