    2. Terry Chevako Bava
    3. Hi. I'm new to the list and looking for info on James Bodkin who d. in Troy Feb 9, 1928. His death record says he was buried Riverside Cemetery. Is there a cemetery book for a lookup? Is there a marriage record for James Bodkin (Botkin) to a Jane or Mary Jane? I would also appreciate a census lookup if possible. There is a James P. Bodkin listed in 1910 in Troy City in Enumeration district 0106, visit 0159. I don't find any sign of James in Miami Co. in 1880, but there is a Lewis Botkins in Monroe Twp. p. 143d whose info I would love to have. Thanks very much for your time. I have the 1880 OH census index and 1870 OH census index and I'm happy to do lookups. Terry Bava _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2. Paul Lee Stickley
    3. Posted on: Miami Co. Oh Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Miami/10336 Surname: Johnson ------------------------- Widow Elizabeth Johnson's purchase of the tract of land near Dayton, OH, may have been in 1809. It appears to have been located in Montgomery County, but it may have been in Miami County, OH. There has been no e-mail response or snail mail response as yet. Private negociations with advertising genealogists have not yet picked up a genealogist to work on the problem on a fee basis. >From personal perusal of OH, records, the possibility arrives that Catharine Anna Johnson could have married Alexander Johnson, her cousin, in OH. However, Catharine/Catherine is a common Johnson name. One MD researcher has identified Alexander Johnson living in OH in this time period as a Johnson descendant of Thomas & Mary (Rogers) Johnson. There are two marriages in early Montgomery County for Alexander Johnson: in 1818 to Catharine Johnson, and in 1820 to Amanda Whitcomb.

    3. Posted on: Miami Co. Oh Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Oh/Miami/10334 Surname: Engel, Hersick, Woshner ------------------------- I am searching for relatives in the Engel family, who lived in Allegheny County, PA from at least the 1890's to 2000. My earliest known Engel is my grandfather- John Nicholas Engel (1892-1971). He married Matilda Ursala Hersick (1892-1982). John and Matilda had two sons, Howard John (1921-1964) and Paul B. (1920-2000). My father was Howard. I know that John Nicholas divorced Matilda, probably around 1940 and sometime afterwards moved to Dayton, Ohio. I understand that he remarried in Dayton and died there. Any leads on family members would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know where John Nicholas Engel is buried in Dayton, and if he has any living family there.

    3. Posted on: Miami Co. Oh Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Miami/10333 Surname: Jansen, Johnson ------------------------- Somewhere in the back of my memory, there is an Erasmus Jansen, later known as Johnson, who had a son named Charles M. Johnson. Charles' wife was named Sarah. These names appeared in Lutheran Church records available in Frederick County, MD. Names associated with the Jansen name were Manzilla Johnson, Matilda, Martha, Newport. These associations are not to be highly trusted as they are just vague traces. These vague traces are not related to any of the Hawbottom Johnson who migrated to OHIO, particularly, Montgomery & Miami Counties. I'll report back later.

My family said they were Dutch and the name had been Jonson or Jansen at one time. I've always thought Samuel and Rebecca were from Frederick Co., Md., but haven't been able to prove it. There is a Martha M. Johnson buried next to them, that nobody knows when or who she is. There is a family sheet in Elkhart that has a water mark from a book store in Baltimore, which I have been given, that I have to go get. Will also contact you by e-mail. Cheers, Leroy

    1. [OH-MIA] Johnsons, Hawbottom, Frederick Co.,MD
    2. Paul Lee Stickley
    3. Posted on: Miami Co. Oh Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Miami/10331 Surname: Johnson ------------------------- Widow Mary Elizabeth (Whitaker) Johnson, after her husband died in 1805, left the Middletown Valley where her husband's family had settled in 1742, and with five (5) of her children, yet not married, and a married daughter, Abigail (Johnson) Johnson, her (Abigail) husband, Thomas Johnson of Joseph, and their son, Alexander Johnson, and went by wagon train to Dayton, OH. Widow Elizabeth (as she was known) purchased a tract of land near Dayton, which she divided into three parcels. She gave one parcel to her son Joseph, one parcel to her son Robert, and settled down on the third parcel with her unmarried daughters, Mary Ann, born 1790, Catharine Ann, born 1793, and Elizabeth, probably born in 1786. Alexander Johnson, born before 1800, later married Amanda Whitcomb in Montgomery County, OH. One of Widow Elizabeth's daughter, name not known, later married, and took up housekeeping in her mother's home. All did not go well, and somehow the daughter and her husband evicted Widow Elizabeth. According to Hawbottom Johnsons (a characterization of the Johnsons who lived on the homestead at Hawbottom) Widow Elizabeth went to the local court and requested that she be returned to the home which she had purchased. Widow Elizabeth lost the case which is supposed to be part of a public document in the county of the purchased site. Despite a year of letter writing no light has been shed on the fact of there being a public document elaborating this situation. Does anyone out there in cyberspace know of the factual existence of such a public document? I am an ancestor hunter seeking to confirm my lineage in the Hawbottom Johnsons, the patriarchs of whom are Thomas & Mary (Rogers) Johnson. Their son, Thomas, their third born, married Mary Elizabeth Whitaker who after 1805 is known as Widow Elizabeth Johnson. Henry Johnson is the first born, John Johnson is the second born, Joseph Johnson is the fourth born, followed by Mary, Robert and Martha. Thirty four descendants are buried in the Johnson Family Cemetery, off Hawbottom Road, in Frederick County, MD.

Supposedly it was with the Mills, Drury, Shanks families. As I have been unable to trace I started looking into Ohio and there are alot of Cecil/Cissell's. My search is for the father of Henry Cissell who married Mary Hetty Hardesty in 1848. Rumor says he might or his father might have been a river boat captain. As there are so many Cecil/Cecill/Cissell's in Miami County during this time frame I was hoping someone could help.Thank you in advance.
