    3. Charges actually vary for OH death certificates. Several years ago, the legislature passed a law limiting charges for copies to the actual cost of the copy. Death records prior to 1908 are held at County Probate Courts & their designates-- (in Cuyt. County, they are at the Archives; in Stark, at the Library; in Summit, at Probate Court, for example); cost is usually around $.25-- send a SASE with your inquiry. From 1908-1944, all OH death records are held at the Ohio Historical Society, and cost about $3.00 each. They have an index on the web which will allow you to provide the certificate number and limit your cost. If you live nearby, and can travel to either Columbus or Youngstown, you can do it yourself for $.25 each. This is the web address that tells you about OH vital records. http://www.vitalrec.com/oh.html#State Ignore the costs listed for birth & death records after 1944, however. They readjusted downwards and have not corrected their website info. After 1944, If you send for a non-certified copy from the OH Dept of Health, the charge is less than $.25-- I don't remember the exact amount. The minimum is $1.00. Have fun & happy hunting.
