St. Malachi records: I wondered if there are any death records listed in the files you mentioned at St. Malachi. The death records for 1905 are not available through the Ohio Historical Society and I could not find an obitutuary on her either. I have been looking for more information on the death of my grandmother, Mary Murphy Reddy who died Oct. 19, 1905. I am particularly interested in cause of death and county of Ireland where she was born. I have one source that said her father's name was Michael Murphy and another Patrick Murphy. Hello All. If your family member died in Cuyahoga Co. prior to 1908, the death record will be held at the Cuy Co. Archives. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohcuyaho/archives.htm You can phone or email them with your request. They are helpful, although it may take a while to hear from them. Early death records have no indication of cause of death, basically tell where the person was buried. As "late" as 1905, you may be in luck. Some years after 1900, names of parents & country of origin was included, as well as cause of death, address. It was not done every years between 1900-1908, however. And it will list country only, not town or county, so don't get your hopes up. The Archives also hold early will records, so ask about that at the same time. Wills are atreasure trove of family info, but not too many people made them in the early days. The Catholic Church, Cleveland diocese, will hold burial records, but getting an answer from them requires divine intervention. They are not helpful at all. The best you can hope for from a parish death record anyway is place of burial, & their address. The Catholic Church has NOT permitted the LDS to film any of their records worldwide. The LDS uses the genealogical information they find the posthumously baptised relatives into the Mormon Church,. so you can see why the CC is not anxious to cooperate! Later records might have cause of death, but early records will not. If you know the cemetery where they were interred, you could check with them. Sometimes the cemetery records include who paid for the funeral, or some other instruction. Ask if it is a family plot, & if so, who else is buried there. I found a "Stranger" in one of mine & am still trying to figure out her relationship to my family! Catholic Cemeteries Ass., 10000 Miles Ave. PO Box605310 Cleveland 44105 If you can find out where buried, and who the funeral home was, FYI, McGorray Bros., who buried a lot of Cleveland Irish, donated early records to the Western reserve Hist. Society in Cleveland. You could contact them to follow up for you. http://www.wrhs.org/sites/library.htm Good Hunting! Judith in OH
