    1. 1850 census lookups -- last chance
    2. Janet
    3. Hi Listers, I'll be finishing my research on the 1850 census for all of Cuyahoga County in about a week or two. If anyone else wants me to look up relatives, let me know. If you've asked me before, you don't need to ask again. However, if you haven't already asked, I need to know first and last names if the surname is fairly common, names of any other known family members, approximate ages in 1850 and the country or state of their birth, if you have any idea. This census is very difficult to read due to the poor quality of the microfilm in places and the almost illegible handwriting of the census takers. They also took great liberties with spelling, sometimes spelling the names of members of the same family two different ways. That's why I need as much information as you can provide -- at times, if a name LOOKS correct, I check the first names for verification. Also, since I'm reading this from microfilm and hand copying anything I find, please don't ask me to give you the names and full information for everyone named "SMITH" or some other very common name. There is no charge for my lookups -- just be patient with me as I go through the films. I do it on my lunch hour, so it will take me at least a week to get through the 2 rolls of the 1850 census. After that I will be starting on the 1880 census. I will have Wards 4-12 on which I can do look-ups. One roll is backordered, but I currently have Wards 7-12. Let me know about any requests you might have for the 1880 census, again providing as much information as you can. I'll be starting on that one in about a week and a half -- after I finish with the 1850. --Janet
