    3. Hello All. This is in response to the comment about writing St. Malachi's for old records. You need to write the archives for the Clevelenad Diocese for the info from all Cleveland parishes. There is a research fee-- I had a batch of questions for them and the final charge was $10.00. They will check marriages, baptisms within the church. They did not begin retaining burial records until the end of the last century, unfortunately. Here is their contact info: Diocese of Cleveland - Archives Office Chancery Building 1027 Superior Ave. Cleveland OH 44114-2503 They will bill you for whatever time they used when they send the results. Do include a SASE. The Cleveland (or Western Reserve?) Genealogical Soc.-- I forget which-- has also published a pamphlet of early records from St. Malachi. You can purhcase it through them-- still available-- for a few dollars. Or put your query on this list-- some listers own a copy & will do a look up for you. Good hunting. Judith in OH

    3. And let me add to that--Good Luck. I have to say that the Cleveland Diocesan Archives is one of the most unresponsive records depository that I have come across. Any Federal agency, including the Social Security Administration, has them beat hands down, and that's saying a lot. In my view, if they are unable to respond in a timely manner, then they should bite the bullet and let somebody come in and film the records so that people can have access to them. What is particularly annoying is that our Cleveland ancestors, who could ill afford it I'm sure, paid for those records as well as the building that they're sitting in, not to mention the "salaries" of the priests, nuns, secretaries--and let's not even talk about the churches, schools, and so forth. 3. I had no problem with them at all. I sent them an SASE and a small donation for postage & copies.....When St. Malachi's could not find my records, they forwarded it to the Diocese which did a great job of extractions for me. Try them again. ----- Original Message ----- From: "M. E. 3. I want to second the comments about good service using the Cleveland Diocesan Archives. I have found them willing to go the extra mile to help locate records. The archivist is knowledgeable, interested and helpful. It has been a pleasure to deal with them. I am sorry , Margaret, that your experience was not good. But I would encourage you to try again. I have utilized their resources on more than one occasion with great results. Good luck.
