Hi List I have just found out my James Brophy shows up on the 1850 census of Ohio Here is whatwas sent to me pg 242, Rockport Twp., Cuyahoga Co. James Brophy , 25, Laborer, born in Canada, hw Jane, 32, b. Canada, and Margaret, 2, b. Canada. No other infor given. Census was taken June 1, 1850 Is there a way to find out what he was doing for work?? Is there an1855 census of this area? He had moved by 1856 so to check the 1860 cenus is useless..... They had a daughter there that died, her name is Elizabeth and I would like to find her burial place if possible. They also had other children while living there... I would like to find out if there were other Brophy's in the vicinity...has anyone got any direction for me?? Cathy
Cathy, There is no 1855 census. try the city directories - They give occupations. If he lived in Rockport Twp. it is likely they belonged to St. Patrick's West Park (assuming they were Catholic). St. Patrick's has a cemetery.
