Janet, My husband's great-grandmother was Margaret Clarke, however, she was born in Cleveland in 1872, too late to be the Margaret you are looking for. However, she probably was named after a family member. Her parents were Michael CLARKE and Mary HOPKINS. They were living in Cleveland by 1859. The family lived on Detroit and Washington Avenues. Michael CLARKE was born in Ireland between 1824-1834. He seems to match the years of arrival and the birth year ranges you posted. Maybe there is a connection. Also, Michael had a brother James who, I was told, went to Canada. These Clarkes, just like Mary Ellen's, are also connected to family that moved to Toledo but kept in contact.
