Maureen I would love any help I can get from anywhere on this. Appreciate the offer. My letter was dated 13 Feb. 2000 and I asked for the death record for John G. Howard, d. 19 March 1932 and Nora Gleason Howard d. 21 Nov. 1927. (I have already tried OHS death record on line and didn't locate anything). Both funerals were conducted from St. Augustines. Also requested baptism certs. for John Howard b. July 1891, Nora Howard b. July 1894 & Margaret Howard b. March 1898 all in Cleveland. Also asked for church roll/membership when they became members as I was hoping it would show where in Ireland the parents were born. Carole, I have received death records from OHS for deaths that were not in the online index. There are a lot of errors in that index. If you know the date of death, try sending them a request ... the only problem is that it takes them 3-4 months to respond. --Janet ----- Original Message ----- From: carole lubbers <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, September 01, 2000 3:07 PM Subject: Re: St. Augustine's Cleveland > Maureen I would love any help I can get from anywhere on this. Listers, To those of you tired of waiting for d.c.'s from OHS here is a gal who will do the look up for you... Her name is Amanda Graber and she is a college student in the Columbus area. She recently posted this look up offer to the Summit and Lorain County lists. She is more than willing to locate d.c.'s or other info you might need much faster and at the same price. Her snail mail address is 980 Jefferson Chase Way, Blacklick, OH 43004. Her e-mail address is [email protected] She requests you include a self addressed stamped envelope. She promises the info in 2 - 3 weeks. Barb Shindler Lorain, OH
Thanks for this reminder! I made a copy of her email and forgot about it. Just sent her a message. Carole and others: In following your problems with getting information from St. Augustine's, etc., may I offer these suggestions. First, most local parishes are extremely understaffed as noted so you may have better luck with the Diocese office on Superior Ave. (address not handy at the moment) Second, try to include a short Family Group Sheet for the core family with your request. This allows several methods of cross reference for the researcher. Third, keep your "requests" to a minimum per letter. Better to send additional letters if needed. Include a $20 donation to cover initial research time. For example, if you're seeking an Irish town or location, try sending a FGS for the person's parents, showing all siblings and their spouses with Cleveland marriage dates and parishes (if known). Likely, one or more of immigrant's marriage records will list their baptismal parish and/or Irish origins. As it may take some time to search all the records, be sure request only the "Irish origins" from the basic research. This sets a short term and hopefully obtainable goal while the subsequent research will likely provide you with much new data. Someone list the Cleveland Catholic Diocese address for Carole please.
