Hi, I am looking for information on my Irish ancestors from Cuyahoga / Lorain County Ohio. I am looking for any information on James and Bridget (CASEY) COLLINS who moved to Cleveland sometime after the Civil War. According to oral family tradition and some records the lived in Wheeling, (Virginia) West Virginia prior to and during the Civil War. They are listed in the 1870 and 1880 Census records as living in Cleveland in 8th Ward (1870). Cleveland Directories list them as living on Rose Alley and later Dare Ave. According to available information James COLLINS was born in ?, Ireland in 1824(?). The names and location of his parents are unknown. The date of death is unverified but some records indicate it may be 2 May 1889 [death index for Cuyahoga Co., I have not verified this at the county archive yet]. Burial is location is unknown, but believed to be Calvary in Cleveland. The date and location of the marriage of Bridget CASEY and James COLLINS is unknown at this time. Bridget CASEY was born in (?), Ireland in 1833(?). [ There are three conflicting documents with the age of Bridget. Death certificate lists date of birth as 1843. This is not probable since she would be 11 years old at the time of the birth of her first son. The 1870 Census lists her age as 32 {birth year 1838} and the 1880 Census lists her age as 47 {birth year 1833}.] Bridget died in Cleveland on 8 Jul 1911 and was buried in Calvary. Funeral was at St. Patricks Church. Her parents listed on the death certificate were John CASEY and Margaret JORDAN of ?, Ireland. Her address at the time of death was listed as W. 28th and Bridge Ave. According to census records James and Bridget had at least 6 children. They are as follows: Thomas b 1854 Wheeling(?), Virginia d. ? James b 1857 Wheeling(?), Virginia d. ? Edward H. b 1 Mar1858 Wheeling,VA(WV)d. 26Jan1912 Cleveland, OH Alice b 1861 Wheeling, VA (WV) d. ? John b 1863 Wheeling, WV d. ? Anna b 1869 Cleveland, OH d. ? The marriage forAlice is as of yet undetermined. Anna signed the death certificate for her mother as Informant in 1911 as Anna A. Andrews. Her address was listed as 17 West Virginia (possible hotel or apartment complex). Edward H. COLLINS is my great grandfather. I am looking for any information that anyone has on Bridget and James COLLINS and their children. I will be visiting the West Virginia State archives in Charleston sometime in early September. If any new information is found I am willing to share it with any of James and Bridget's descendants. Edward Collins [email protected] bt
