    3. Does anyone have any insights, stats, or impressions about which entry ports immigrants from Mayo would have used when they intended to end up in the Pa. coal fields? Esp. the Pittston-Scranton-Wilkes-Barre area. In 1949. Would Philadelphia/Baltimore have been more likely than NYC and/or Boston? What has been your experience? Jack Braverman Cleveland. OH

    3. This is a difficult question. My own Irish ancestors came in through Philadelphia, settled in that city briefly and then moved on to Cleveland. I suppose that someone who came in through Philadelphia might easily have moved up to the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre area. New York is also a possibility. I would think Boston is unlikely, but don't rule out Canada. They could have come down through western New York State to that area of Pennsylvania (I'm sure this is just what you wanted to hear!) I guess I haven't been very helpful. Have you tried posting this query on whatever board covers the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre area? Janet in NJ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack R.
