    1. Re: GILLROY in Cleveland
    2. Kelly, This is the story about how we came to be the owners of this "stuff." Sometime in the late '70's when my husband was just out of high school, he worked for a summer at a place called Rex Pipe in Medina, OH. Medina was still a pretty rural area at the time. Behind Rex Pipe there was mostly field and farmland. The only thing back there were some abandoned, old farm houses. My husband walked back there on his lunch hour one day to check out these buildings. They had been empty for quite some time. He said raccoons were living in the house and you could tell people had taken anything of value long before. All that was left was some clothes on the closet floor and old letters and photos scattered across the floor. As he picked up some of these letters to read he decided to take them and read them at home. Since then, we have been married and moved three times. The McGaffney stuff has gone with us each time. The old bread box full of cards, letters and photos is in our basement as we have adopted Florence as our surrogate grandmother. It seems a shame that she painstakingly saved these letters all those years and there was no family to claim them. Anyway, after digging a couple letters out, I realized that they are addressed to Florence and Stephen McGaffney. Stephen and Florence originally lived in Cleveland but moved to Medina to go into the cattle farming business. They has one son Larry, who moved to Florida. Stephen died before Florence. Do you have any older relatives you could ask about this perhaps? Many of the letters are from the 1950s. Do any of these names sound familiar? Larry, Anne, Donna, Sally, Edna, William, Dory, Martha? I know there is a Marriage certificate from the 1800s in there but can't recall the names on it. Let me know if any of this rings a bell. Lilly Murphy
