Dear Jen, I have a 1914 Cleveland City Directory so I thought I'd look up GILLROY. None listed with the double "L" but here are the Gilroy names: Bernard, brakeman, 2482 West 7th SW; Catherine widow of J.B. 2482 West 7th SW; Edward G. salesman 5219 Superior NE; James switchman 2357 Cedar SE; James C. engineer 1519 Starkweather SW; James E. clerk 1519 Starkweather SW; John C. 6213 Utica NE; Margaret, confectionary, 4104 St Clair, res. 5219 Superior NE; Thomas L. switchman 1021 Auburn SW. Hope you can sort these out. Carolyn Cleveland, OH
Dear Jen: Do you or does anyone remember SMAYDA BAKERIES? I'm a Smayda, in Florida, and I would love to hear any good stories that anyone might have! **Jen--do you have Smayda's (or Smajda's-other spelling)listed in your 1914 directory? I'm also looking for my Great-Grandparents-Patrick & Margaret Gaffney and what their address was then. Patrick was a police officer that was shot in the line of duty and died from complications from the shot in 1919. I would be forever greatful if you could look that up for me! Thanks so, so much! Kelly, My husband was born in Cleveland and I will ask him about the bakery. He still talks about "spudnut" donuts... is there a connection? I'll let you know what my husband says about it. I don't have the directory.... hopefully the person who does will see your question.
