The person who wrote the article is an Eastsider and professes to be related to none of the other Irish of the same surname in the Greater Cleveland area. It was a fairly accurate article. He made mention of the book, written in 1976 by Father Nelson Callahan (of St. Raphael's Parish, Bay Village), which apparently deals with surnames and emigration from the West of Ireland. I plan to read it, although I know Fr. Callahan and find it quite surprising that he wrote such a book. Most descendant families of immigrants from Achill Island, County Mayo, Ireland are Westsiders. Having been from such a family, and having many relatives still on Achill Island, I can tell you that the people there are pretty up-to-date on who's who in the Cleveland Irish community!
The book mentioned, "Irish Americans and Their Communities of Cleveland," is actually in two parts. One part was written by Fr. Callahan, and the other by William F. Hickey, a newspaperman for maybe The Plain Dealer (I'm not from the area--someone else would probably know the newspaper). As you might expect, Fr. Callahan's section deals mainly with Church history in Cleveland. Mr. Hickey's part deals with the Westsiders, the Angle and the early Irish in Cleveland.
