I am starting two new surnames in my research. A year ago, my youngest son married a lovely young lady with the two main surnames of SAMMON and SWEENEY on her maternal side. Her great great grandfather was Alexander SAMMON either from Mayo or Roscommon. He married Bridget SWEENEY either in Ireland or after they emigrated to Cleveland. Following the time line back, it seems this couple probably were born in the 1840/1850s. Her great grandmother (b. about 1880), grandmother (b. 1916) and mother (b. 1956) were all born in Cleveland area. They may have originally been "Angle" Irish. I've checked Griffith's Valuation but only SAMMON listed in Mayo was a Mary SAMMON in the Castlebar area. The family has ties to many in the greater Cleveland area with Mayo links. Roscommon was a county name that came up in discussion. I decided to start with the close to home research first and then work out. Does anyone on the Cleveland list have data that might be pertinent or give me a direction to pursue? We were just about to have our tree printed when a "light" bulb went on! Someday we may have grandchildren who want to know their mother's family story as well as their father's! Mary Ellen Chambers Lakewood Ohio
