Does anyone have a connection to a Patrick Kelly that died in Cleveland age 33, January 24, 1877, leaving behind wife Mary, daughters Nellie, Mary, and new born infant daughter? Patrick may have been sick and perhaps was trying to get his wife and children near relatives. He left New York to come to Cleveland, Why? I know absolutely nothing about these grandparents, other than Grandfather's date of death. Any help would be most welcome. Thnaks. Is anyone researching Madigans? I am interested in James P. Madigan, wife and infant son John F. living in Cleveland in 1870 with my Grandfather John F. Goggin and his wife. James' grandson John F. Jr. became a priest. I believe that some of the girls became nuns. Dennis Murphy, I think you have a connection to this family also. It seems that James P. Madigan, Michael Madigan and my grandfather came to this country together in 1868. Any takers on this family? Lily~ If you go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ you might find the info you are seeking. It allows you the choice of surname, state and I believe year. I found many of my family in Cleveland. However, since I had made a trip to the CP Library a few years back and via microfiche got some of them, I found the list incomplete for my great grandparent who lived on Washington and I have a copy of the 1900 which includes them. It is a transcribed list and not a scan. For Maryland, I found only census from late 1700s to 1850. I understand this is an ongoing volunteer project. Other free sites I got from WRHS were http://www.census-online.com/ http://censuslinks.com/ Mary Ellen Chambers Maryln61@Aol.com
Dear list, Does anyone subscribe to the ancestry.com census images that would be willing to look up Robert McKenna in San Francisco, CA in 1900? The San Francisco City Directory has him living at 156 Octavia, occupation painter. He was born in 1847 in MA. I am interested in knowing if he married and had children after leaving Cleveland about 1875. The city directory only lists 2 Robert McKennas in San Francisco in 1900 so he shouldn't be too hard to find. Thanks to one and all who were kind enough to answer my request by resending Mary Ellen Chambers' msg. Appreciate all the kindnesses. (Gosh! The Cleveland I rish list goes all over the place.) J.R.B.
To the Cleveland Irish list ~ We have taken advantage of genealogy lectures at Western Reserve Historical Society. The first was an overview Exploring Family History, An Introduction which will be repeated on April 5, June 7, and October 4. The fee is $15. Per person. The second was yesterday: Genealogical Research in the Computer Age. I do not know when it will be offered again. Both presentations were excellent. Ohio Research is on May 3 Fee $15. Passing on Research Results September 13 Fee $15 Mining the Resources of the WRHS November 1 Fee $15 They have other lecture available under the heading Lunch With Your Ancestors. If the two we attended are the standard and the packed attendance, take advantage but register early. There is a late fee $5 and I really wonder if there is a space for late registers. Turning walk-ins away and told there was a waiting list for cancellations for yesterday's presentation. It seems the Hassler Rm. accommodates about 35. The on line address is wrhsgen@juno.com. Sometime between 1845 and 1850, Dennis Callaghan married the widow Alice Finnigan who had four children, Barney, Patrick, Mary and Philip. Her maiden name was Alice Ward. Philip was my great grandfather. Mary was born in Brantford, Canada in 1843. The family was in Cleveland in 1850. Mary married Jeremiah O'Leary and they had eight children, one of whom, Hannah, married Daniel O'Callaghan. Lots of little things here which may be a coincidence or maybe not. Do we have a connection here? Philip O'Brien
Any chance that you are related to a Jerome O'Callaghan? There was a Jeremiah in his line. A direct relative, although up in years still lives there and was able to tell me stories of the family dating back to the 1800's. I just had my hard drive replaced and can't open my Family Tree Maker program. But if this is the same line, then before a short stay in Canada you'll most likely end up in County Cork. Wish I could help you out more, but this is all I can remember.
