Information on the death certificate is not always accurate, just information given by someone related to the deceased.

    3. I have just received a genealogical bombshell! First of all, I wrote to the Diocese of Cleveland for some records, using their online research form and received their response in less than a week! But my true bombshell is that I asked for the baptismal record of my great grandfather, Philip Goldrick, basically hoping to connect with other family through learning the names of the sponsors. But what I learned was that his father's name was Miles Goldrick, as I had always known, but his mother's name was given as Margaret COONEY! I had always thought her name was Margaret Burns. That was the name given on Philip Goldrick's death certificate as the name of his mother. Now, it seems I will have to go back and start all over again. In a way, this makes some sort of sense: Miles Goldrick's brother, Owen, was married to Maria Cooney, May 29, 1851, in St. John's Cathedral -- I wonder if they were sisters? I know there is at least one person on this board researching the Cooney family ... if you read this, please tell me what you think and how this might fit in with your research. 3. Several people in the past have asked about getting information on relatives that were part of the Cleveland Police Department. I have had terrific success getting information, pictures and other file information on a relative that was killed in the line of duty. The society will also help you find information on all officers. However, today was the first time that I visited the on-line memorial for officers killed in the line of duty. It is extremely nice. The link listed below is to my relative James F. Goggin, but there are links at the bottom of the page for the whole site. www.policememorialsociety.org/goggin_james.htm When I inquired several years ago, the Cleveland Fire Dept did not have anything to offer the public, but perhaps that has changed. Has anyone heard? I was originally told that all of the old records had been thrown out when the Superior/ Euclid station was rebuilt. Being in California I am not able to make contact with organizations in Cleveland very often. I'm betting that there must be something left, especially from the early days. The only records I have found of my grandfather in the fire dept. is a picture of the steam engine pulled by horses and driven by Grandfather in the Cleveland library. Cheers, Karen Goggin _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your messages with MSN 8. Get 2 months FREE*. http://join.msn.com/?page=features/featuredemail

    3. This is a difficult question. My own Irish ancestors came in through Philadelphia, settled in that city briefly and then moved on to Cleveland. I suppose that someone who came in through Philadelphia might easily have moved up to the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre area. New York is also a possibility. I would think Boston is unlikely, but don't rule out Canada. They could have come down through western New York State to that area of Pennsylvania (I'm sure this is just what you wanted to hear!) I guess I haven't been very helpful. Have you tried posting this query on whatever board covers the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre area? Janet in NJ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack R. 3. Good news for us! The Catholic Diocese found a baptism record for my great grandmother, Nellie Walsh Moran -- and it did have her mother's maiden name listed! I've been looking for this information for YEARS -- and here it was in our own back yard. Sigh. Here's what Christine Krosel found: (St. John's Cathedral! Since St. Malachi wasn't established until 1865.) Name: Helen Walsh Born: July 30, 1862, baptized August 3, 1862 Parents: Patrick Walsh and Mary Horan Sponsors: John Walsh and Mary Sheran Priest: Rev. T. P. Thorpe. Definitely worth the $10 research fee! Warm regards, Karen King Hiatt Rocky River, OH (suburb of Cleveland)

Since my husband is a Corcoran, I'm always interested in other's who just might be related or connected. Anyone familiar with this family? Thank you, Carolyn Corcoran

    2. John~ Do you have the name of the Cleveland Parish they belonged. The parish name would give me a clue as where to suggest they might be in modern time. Also, if they attended Catholic High School or Catholic College/University in this area? Some of the Catholic High Schools have active alumna associations so if their children attended this might be an avenue. What about military records? Any males who might have served in the two World Wars, Korea or 'Nam? Did the MOORE name literally die out? If not you could try the White Pages on line for a street address or phone number. 2. Jack, My Mayo family all came in via NY but came to OH and no mining connections. Even trips back to Ireland in early 1900s were through NYC. We have a classic family story of my great uncle Pat MCFADDEN getting so drunk in NYC that he missed the boat back home. His older sister Ann MCFADDEN MCNAMARA was furious! She was paying his fare and was also pregnant. Each year for first few children she would travel to Mayo for their birth. Pat had a wee problem with the porter his whole life! Mary Ellen
