Hi to Everyone, I just received my spring copy of "The Certified Copy" from the GCGS and read an article on Lonnie McCauley being named as part time Irish archivist at WRHS. In the article it mentions that she created the Padraic Pearse Library at the Irish American Club in Euclid. Being a former Euclidian I know just where it's at but could someone who's been there tell me if there is a membership fee for using this library? If anyone has any first hand knowledge I'd appreciate the info. My Irish Sweeney family were pioneer settlers of the Bluestone area of Euclid and I thought perhaps the IAC might have something I could use. Thanks and take care, Cindy [email protected]
Thanks, again. Nothing jumps out at me but you never know. Gloria > The Perry families listed in the censuses for Cuyahoga County are as > follows: > 1820--- > Daniel---Troy Township--Pg 051
Hi Erin, Thanks for the offer!! The time delay is great as I will have to do some digging. Let me know which census/es you would like researched on my end, Oh and names. Eleanor (Cleveland)
Hi Listers, I tried to get the names of the members of Co B 8th regt. OVI from Ancestry.com of which I am a member but can not seem to break into the databank. If no one else comes up with the names, I will check at archives on Monday. By the way, please keep in mind my membership, as I am more than willing to check on infro for others on it. This I can do, even with the kids running around. Eleanor (Cleveland)

Dennis and Ingrid, At one time Ancestry.com had the Civil War database open for research, but now I find it is for members only. Maybe a kind Ancestry member could look up and post the names from Co B, 8th Regt. OVI here on our list. I would also be interested in such a list as I have a John MURPHY ancestor who disappeared during the Civil War period and may have been in the Hibernian Guards. Thanks for checking, Eleanor. Since I don't have any proof of birthplace on Andrew, I will follow any leads. When you say 'many other Perry's', would it be too much to ask to have you list them? Perhaps I will recognize some family names that will give me a clue. Thanks, again. Gloria > I found no ANDREW PERRY in Ohio in 1820 or 1830. Many other Perry's > listed, let me know if desired.
The Hibernian Guards "were an independent military company made up of Irish-American volunteers. . . . By 1861, the Hibernian Guards numbered 49 men and muskets. . . . were mustered into for 3-year stints as Co. B in the 8th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Army. The company saw action in such battles as Antietam and Gettsburg before its orignal members were mustered out of service on 13 July 1864." per The Encycopedia of Cleveland History. Would anyone know of a list of members for the Hibernian Guards? Ingrid Abram
Hi Gloria, I found no ANDREW PERRY in Ohio in 1820 or 1830. Many other Perry's listed, let me know if desired. I ran Andrew Perry name without listing any state since you mentiond "grasping at straws" and the following were the only Andrews listed: 1820--Andrew-- 1. Massachusetts--Plymouth County Middleborough Twshp--page 412 ID# Mas2a974155 2. New York--Niagara county Aurora twshp--page 184 ID# NYs2a974153 3. New York--Oneldoa County Rome Twshp--Page 121 ID# NYs2a974154 1830--Andrew-- 1. Connecticut--Fairfield County Huntington Twshp--page 718 ID# CTs3a1436724 2. Massachusetts--Plymouth County Middleboro Twshp--page 264 ID# MAs3a1436723 3. New York--Erie County Aurora twshp--page 179 ID# NYs3a1436726 4. New York--Oswego County Redfield Twshp--page 314 ID# NYs3a1436725 Hope this helps, Eleanor (Cleveland)
Thanks very much. Gloria could you check to see if Andrew Perry shows up .... I will be happy to check my Ancestry.com for what ward the family lived in at the time.
Hi Eleanor: I'm grasping at straws; however, since my Perry family is, as far as we know, Irish, and there were many Irish families in Cleveland, could you check to see if Andrew Perry shows up in any of the wards during the 1820 and 1830 timeframe? He was born about 1795 and may have been married by1830. Thanks very much. Gloria Lamm I will be happy to check my Ancestry.com for what ward the family lived in at the time.
Hi, Eleanor, I am also in Virginia. Our Virginia Beach library has a pretty good collection of census microfilms for Virginia. I don't have a lot of time for research right now, but I think I will have some time after I finish with finals next week. Let me know what you're looking for and I'll see if I can help. Erin -----Original Message----- From: eleanor <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, April 26, 2000 9:29 AM Subject: Re: Observations on my census research... Hi Griff, Can you get your hands on the different Censuses of Virginia free? I am in Cleveland and our main Library has all the Ohio Censuses but none of the other States. If you can get your hands on Va's--lets exchange hunts. Let me know please. Eleanor (Cleveland)
Hello Janet, If you stumble on any Elwell or Daney or Chapin's listed I'd appreciate your letting me know. I have a huge plat book for the entire Cuyahoga county area from around 1885. It shows the property owner's and may be divided into wards-at least the Cleveland part. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks Janet. Will check out the site you mention. Families of interest in Cleveland, should you run across same: Bambrick, Bruder, and Kelley who are railroaders. First two from County Laois, last from Donegal. Griff Garland
Hi listers, If anyone out there is thinking of ordering censuses, expecially for years with several rolls, I will be happy to check my Ancestry.com for what ward the family lived in at the time. Eleanor (Cleveland)
Janet, If you let me know which ones were impossible to read, I will check the copies our library has. Some, sad to say ARE unreadable. Eleanor (Cleveland)

Dear Griff, I found an index on Ancestry.com that indicated some of my Cleveland Irish ancestors might be listed on the 1870 census in either the 5th or 7th wards. Coincidentally, I also saw an ad about the same time for a place which sells copies of census microfilms at www.censusmicrofilm.com . They have an online catalog that covers the whole country, but you really need to know which ward your ancestors lived in (at least for Cleveland) I paid 12.95 per roll + $4 shipping for the 4 rolls I purchased. They guarantee that they are sending you "the best copy available" but in places it's almost impossible to read (of course, that may be true on ALL copies) The entire 1850 census is on just 2 rolls, so I bought the whole thing. You may find that for some of the less populated counties that the whole county is on just 1 or 2 rolls ... in the case of Cuyahoga County there are about 8 or 9 rolls for the 1870 census and the number increased every year as the population grew. Since I actually bought the microfilms and, therefore, have unlimited time using them, I offered to do free lookups for other people on this board as I do my own research. I hope this information is helpful to you...
