I Have gotten info from Calavery... on my family... dates of death, cause of death ( on some ) funeral home name and such Happy Hunting! Susan PI (Ward) BEDFORD, BEUCUS, CASPERSON, CHRISTENSEN, HOCH, MAJOR, MORRIS, MICHEL, RETTBERG, WARD
My great-grandparents are in Calvary Cemetery. When I went there to find their graves, I found the people quite helpful. They were able to show me the location of the graves. My grandparents are buried at Lakeview Cemetery. At Lakeview, they often have copies of the obit's attached to the burial card/or information. They gave me that information. Calvary did not the obits as I recall. Kathy Ochs
To the gal who's mother has cancer and has undergone surgery. A year ago, I too was diagnosed with cancer. I had a biopsy on June 7; surgery for the malignant area on June 24. I underwent radiation therapy treatments from early in August to the last of September. In March of this year, I had a follow-up x-ray. Everything is as clear as a bell. Your mother may live for many years. Don't give up on her yet; make sure she has a positive attitude. That's what got me through the ordeal. A positive outlook and a great family, and many supporting friends and acquaintances. There were many people online who bolstered my spirits during the whole period, and still do, even though they have never met me. God bless you and your mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you and her. Patricia
Janet, I suggest the Cuyahoga County Archives. Their staff is limited but very helpful and parking is free. A day here would be most profitable. Carolyn
Sorry about the inscriptions, just ask they are very helpful
When I got my info from Calvery, I Had called and she asked at that time if I wanted a Polaroid of the tombstone. So I would ask.
They will be able to tell you if your relative(s) is buried there, or in one of the other Cemeteries they administer, eg. St. John's, & St. Joseph's on Woodland Ave. They will give you date of burial and age of person and location of the burial lot and who ever else is buried there. I doubt they will give you any information concerning tombstone inscriptions. My great great grandfather (same last name) died in the same decade but I don't yet have the date, would the cemetery tell me if he is buried there and provide his death date? Do they only give location of the tombstone, or is there some way to find out what the inscription is? > >Thanks, >Janet >
Janet.......Depends on what you will be searching for and the years involved...Pat
Hi- Either one of those would be about the same depending on the info needed. I would personally recommend the Archives for a start. That is not too far from the old Irish neighborhood called the Angle and just less than 5 minutes from St. Malachi's Church where alot of them attended mass and school. Good Luck,Lena
Hi - I just received a very lengthly listing of all the names, dates and ages of my relatives in one plot. They typed it out ( i.e. they did not send photocopies). I gave them only one death date and name that I had --- and asked for everyone in that plot ( as I knew nothing about anyone else in the family) ...and I hit gold. I went back another generation. Calvary did not start burials until 1912 but I did not know that and the woman had all the Catholic burial records for all of Cleveland and surrounding area. The also sent a map. As for your grandfather without a burial date, if he is not buried with the others , you may have to give them a little search fee to look for him - I gave them $5.00. Good Luck. I will be passing through Cleveland in a few weeks and would like to stop to do a bit of research. My question is: If I only have one day (or part of a day) where would I be able to spend my time most profitably? Should I go to the Cuyahoga County Archives? The Fairview Park Library? Somewhere else? Again, thanks for your kind advice, Janet

My sincere sympathy and may God be with you for this very hard time. You do a great job. Everyone will be here when the time if right for you. M
Dear Friend, When I first saw your post I noticed that your Gallaghers followed a similar movement and time pattern as another Goggin researcher in Indiana. I just now remembered that he had a Goggin married to a Gallagher. The records from Indiana are on Family Tree Maker's Library.Com and I will try to locate any Gallagher information when I have a few extra moments,( which will not be until next week some time) and post them to the list. I need to let everyone know at this time that I am the list owner and have only been handling the business end of the list for a while. This is due to serious illness in the family. My Mom has recently been diagnosed with Cancer and has undergone surgery. She will shorty be leaving us. Our greatest joy has been having the time to share her past and give her the information that she so much wanted to know about her family from England and Ireland. Time waits for no man. So, I ask for your patience during this time if I am not always able to fulfill my duties here as I should. I know at this time that I still owe "Janet" a Great Big Thank You for all of her generous help with look-ups for all of us and to several others for keeping our list going during this time. "Thanks to all of you kind souls and blessings to you all. Please be kind to one another and remain as wonderful as you have all been." Gerry, Don't see any connection to my Cleveland Ryans. Thanks for your message. Carolyn
Carolyn, What sort of information is in the books you are discussing from St. Malachi's. ? Terry
Hi Listers, I'll be finishing my research on the 1850 census for all of Cuyahoga County in about a week or two. If anyone else wants me to look up relatives, let me know. If you've asked me before, you don't need to ask again. However, if you haven't already asked, I need to know first and last names if the surname is fairly common, names of any other known family members, approximate ages in 1850 and the country or state of their birth, if you have any idea. This census is very difficult to read due to the poor quality of the microfilm in places and the almost illegible handwriting of the census takers. They also took great liberties with spelling, sometimes spelling the names of members of the same family two different ways. That's why I need as much information as you can provide -- at times, if a name LOOKS correct, I check the first names for verification. Also, since I'm reading this from microfilm and hand copying anything I find, please don't ask me to give you the names and full information for everyone named "SMITH" or some other very common name. There is no charge for my lookups -- just be patient with me as I go through the films. I do it on my lunch hour, so it will take me at least a week to get through the 2 rolls of the 1850 census. After that I will be starting on the 1880 census. I will have Wards 4-12 on which I can do look-ups. One roll is backordered, but I currently have Wards 7-12. Let me know about any requests you might have for the 1880 census, again providing as much information as you can. I'll be starting on that one in about a week and a half -- after I finish with the 1850. --Janet
You can get St. Malachi's Marriage records on Microfisch from the FHC. The records were read and indexed by the Greater Cleveland Genealogy Society. The marriage records on the microfisch run from 20 Dec. 1865 to 28 June 1899. Microfisch No. 6046601. Chris Hulsey Akron, OH [email protected]
