Ed Doyle, Thanks for all the info on your family. I will see what connects to my CORCORAN & MURPHY; if anything. Carolyn Corcoran

Colleen, Jani and Dennis- Find below all the info that I have dug up on my great grandfather, Michael Doyle. It is not complete as I have just returned from Cleveland and have new information on the his children. I have Corrigans that are 3rd cousins (I think). I did not know them well, but there was a Corrigan at my father's (Edward J. Doyle, grandson of Michael J. Doyle) funeral. I have not been able to identify any of Michael Doyle's other immediate family. It may be that he had a sister who married into the Corrigan family. Also if you note the address, your Corrigans only lived a couple of doors away from my great grandparents on Washington Street. MICHAEL J. DOYLE 17 November 1990 End of the first spate of research - Cleveland City Hall , East Cleveland City Hall, Cuyahoga County Archives, Fairview Park Library, Barry Bros. Funeral Directors, Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. 25 September 1994 After visit to Calvary Cemetery and County Archives Trying to determine the origins of my great grandfather, Michael J. Doyle, who immigrated from Ireland. The following pertains to him and is provided to help in identifying him from records. 1845 - Born in Ireland (County Mayo ?) 1860 - Arrived in the USA -April 1863 - May have served in the Union Army during Civil War 1866 - Married Elizabeth Keely (Kealy/Kearny), St. Malachi Parish, Cleveland, Ohio 1866 - 1906 Lived in Cleveland, Ohio for the rest of his life in the area around West 25th Street and Detroit Avenue. Worked as a Great Lakes sailor and laborer (Lyman, Strong and Co.) Fathered 9 children: Mary(Mamie Hennessy), Thomas, James, Patrick, Peter, Harry (Charles), Joseph, John (Edward), and Lillian (Ralph) Lived at the following addresses: 21 1/2 Washington Street 128 Washington Street 385 Detroit Street 322 Washington Street 127 Church Street 84 Church Street 2824 Church Street 1872 - Signed a Statement of Intent to become a US citizen on the 17th of October in the Cuyahoga County Probate Court, Cleveland, Ohio. 1874 - Received citizenship on the 12th of October at the same Probate Court. The middle initial on the document is confusing as the writing is cursive and it could be interpreted as the letter "T" or "F". However his sponsor is a Mr. E. B. Campbell (Edward ?) who was employed at the Lyman, Strong and Company. This is the same company that employed several members of the Doyle family over the years; and later on , son, John married an Anna Campbell. 1906 - Died in Cleveland, Ohio on the 15th of January of Pneumonia and was waked at McGorry Bros. Funeral Parlor. Wife Elizabeth died the following 11th of October. Both are interred side by side in Section 11, Lot 422, Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio. Hope that we all have a connection here, as I am trying to determine from where exactly in Ireland, that my Great Grandfather came. (Many thanks to the reader who mentioned that the Western Reserve Historical Society had acquired the McGorry Bros. Funeral Home records. These are very useful sources as they give the names of all the relatives and acquaintances who contributed to defray the costs of my greatgrandparents' funerals.) Best regards from Fairfax, VA Ed Doyle
Hi Carolyn I was going my notes from my aunt last night and on the 1900 cenus my Corrigan's live at 122 Washington St. Also, my aunt thinks Bridget (Doyle) Corrigan's sister name was Elizabeth (Lizzie?) which I hadn't put any thought to, but makes me believe my Doyles were there in Cleveland as well, not just Bridget. I also recall seeing a picture my aunt had sent me when I first started this of the Doyles in (I think Alleghany PA)...got to look for the picture. Does anybody know if the Cleveland Diocese Archives Department has all the back issues of Universe Bulletin in hard copy or on film? Is there an index to the names in the Bulletin?
For anyone researching Dunn, thought this information might be useful: from 1899 wedding invitation: Mr and Mrs. Patrick James Dunn request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter May Elizabeth to Mr. Frank Dwight Grunder on Tuesday morning June the 27th 1899 at 9 o'clock at Saint Augustine's Church Cleveland
Sorry Parnell, Have no data on those Corcorans. Not part of our family. Carolyn
Hi, I ordered on microfilm thru interlibrary loan from the Ohio Historical Society (I live in NV), the 1908-1912 issues of the Cleveland Catholic Universe. This was some time ago, so I don't have the films now. You might want to check out their page if you aren't in Ohio. http://www.ohiohistory.org Laura ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, August 23, 2000 8:26 AM Subject: Re: Universe Bulletin > Sherry, Where does one find it? We had a family of Corcoran's that lived on our street W 171st in Cleveland off Puritas from around 1956 or so.... Does this help?
Reggie, The Universe Bulletin is the Diocese of Cleveland's Catholic Newspaper, it came out bi-weekly as I remember. As long as I've been alive it's been around, and I suspect long before I was born in 1950. For Catholic Information such as this, a good investment is a Catholic Almanac. It has all religious organizations, publications, diocese. orders of priests and nuns mailing addresses. A very useful tool in researching Catholic Ancestors. Sherry

Just talked to my mom and my Aunt and have some info....not much....but some info on the CORRIGAN'S. My mom's girlfriend from High School was Sheila Corrigan and she was related to the Corrigan's who own the Corrigan Funeral Home, but they were not related to our Corrigans. Then I was talking to my Aunt (dad's sister) and she said her cousin Daniel Corrigan (who was a Judge), his son Daniel (who's a lawyer) was also researching the CORRIGAN'S and showed her a lot of info that he had gathered. My question now is by any chance is Daniel (Danny) Corrigan on line as one of the list members? If so.....please email me at [email protected] (p.s. I have a cat name Bud and a cat name Wiser) Thanks Colleen
