Hi Dorene, I didn't find a William Shimp in Fairfield Co but did find these two entries-could William have died by then? 1840, OH, Fairfield Co, Greenfield twp, pg 288; Catherine Shimp, head; Males; 1 in age 15 - 20; 2 in age 20 - 30; Females; 1 in age 15 - 20; 1 in age 50 - 60; end of this household. Then there is an entry indexed as Shump but after viewing the page, it appears to be Shimp to me -it has a dot over what I think is an i not a u. 1840, OH, Fairfield Co, Liberty twp, pg 364; Mary Shump (as indexed), head; Males; 1 in age 5 - 10; 2 in age 20 - 30; Females; 1 under 5; 2 in age 10 - 15; 2 in age 20 - 30; 1 in age 30 - 40; and then instead of a 1 it has what appears to be a check mark in the box for age 50 - 60; end of this household. I don't usually send images but if you think this Mary might be yours and since there is some question about the name and the checkmark on the age 50 - 60, I can try to send you the image as an attachment if you would like. There were 4 William Shimp's that came up in the United States index; one in Salem Co, NJ; one in Cumberland Co PA; and 2 in Mifflin Co, PA; If you think those are a possibility, you may want to subscribe to those state lists for a reading on them.
