Would be very grateful for a lookup for the following person: Charlotte (TOWNSEND) CUMMINGS, b. about 1823, Belmont Co., OH.; she migrated with her family to Morgan Co., OH about 1850. Her mother, Mary (SMITH) TOWNSEND, and brother, Smith TOWNSEND, are found living in this county on the 1850 census. Charlotte married Richard CUMMINGS about 1855, but their child, Montreville CUMMINGS, was born about 9 years before they married. I'm trying to find out if Charlotte was his mother, or if they adopted him. My theory right now is that perhaps Charlotte was married to another man with the surname of CUMMINGS before being married to Richard, and this son is a product of that first marriage.
