Sandy, Are you certain that the information you have from the 1870 census is correct? I don't find any listing in the 1870 census index for an Airy/Arey JOHNSTON anywhere in Monroe County, and the only Benjamin JOHNSTON in Franklin Township was born 1838, making him 22 yrs. old. Also, the 1870 census didn't specify if someone was widowed or not. Can you send me the page number of the census where the 1870 information was found? I want to take a look at the entry before I try a search in the 1860 index. Marilyn --------------------------original message-------------------- In a message dated 1/23/2008 11:08:41 A.M. I am researching Arey/Airy Johnston. In 1870 the census showed her to be in Franklin Township, Monroe Co., OH. She was born approx. 1824. She had a son named Benjamin b. c. 1862. She was listed as widowed. If she had any other children, it was not shown. I would like very much to know if she was on the same farm in 1860 and if so, who lived there with her. Her son was born in 1862 so would not be born yet. I don't know if she had any other children nor what her husband's name was. In 1870 she was shown as head of household. Her son was born c. 1862 so would not be born yet. Were there any other children? Was there a husband's name? Was she at this farm? If it happened to show her parents' birthplace That also would be wonderful. **************Start the year off right.
