Not to start an argument, Sue, but that does not explain the children's ages. If George & Christina were married in 1837, how is the child Mary age 14 in 1850? This would mean that she was born before the union ... And I see by looking up the 1840 Census of Hancock Co. that a 'Geo. Woolheter' was listed in Union Township: males age 5 & under 10 = 1 males age 20 & under 30 = 1 females age under 5 = 2 females age 5 & under 10 = 1 females age 10 & under 15 = 1 females age 30 & under 40 = 1 ============ I found a 'George Woolheter' also listed in Union Township in 1850: ... Notice that they have several boys, while the other family next door to Sr. only has the one in 1850. I understand that the name is written as Woolheater, but I am trying to find out if this could be a mistake. I cannot seem to locate the George (Jr.) Woolheater family in 1860 ... Did they move out of Hancock County? :-) Jeannie(Lucas) Fleck ----- Original Message ----- From: "ksremark" <kskramer@wcoil.com> To: <OH-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 29, 2004 12:40 AM Subject: Re: [OH-CENSUS] Copies of Census ??? | Jeanne | The George who married Christina Smals, is George Jr | and Christina is Christina Kramer Smaltz. | The George who married Susannah Fellers | is George Sr. . does this help any? Please disregard the apparent errors in census' where ages appear off a little due to census takers errors, misinformation given by the people, or the fact the census was actually taken in July or August, but was instructed to identify the people who were actually living at that residence effective January 1st. Take for instance an individual's birth was in March several years earlier, his age would be shown 1 year younger than he is, because the anniversary of his birthyear would occur after that January cutoff date for census purposes. Another example, a person died in April but would be listed as living January 1st in the census. Or a persom married in Feb but shown as still single as of Jan 1st. I have several cases where a family was said living in northern Indiana, but was also shown living in Michigan in the same census, which was true. >Not to start an argument, Sue, but that does not explain >the children's ages. I agree that the ages could have been supplied by outsiders, etc. (Thanks for pointing that out!) The point I was trying to make was that there were two George Wolheter/Woolheater listings in 1850 & the one in Union Township "fitted" with 1840 information better than the one in Eagle Township ... :-) Jeannie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kitty Kutchmark" <kutchmark@1st.net> To: <OH-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 29, 2004 1:43 PM Subject: Re: [OH-CENSUS] Copies of Census ??? | does this help any? | Please disregard the apparent errors in census' where ages appear off a | little due to census takers errors, misinformation given by the people, | or the fact the census was actually taken in July or August, but was | instructed to identify the people who were actually living at that | residence effective January 1st.
