Hi Jamie, I'm afraid I can't find any Hearth surname in Ohio--in fact there is one John Hearth in the US in 1850 in Indiana, age 12. There are way too many variants using the Soundex index at Ancestry.com on 'John Hearth'--about 4000 names returned for the entire 1850 US census and 337 in Ohio alone. Ancestry.com now has an all-name index for 1850 so I searched on 'Hester Hearth' as well. When restricting her birthplace to Ohio and using the Soundex index, I find 2 matches in all of the US; one is 7 and one is 3 (surnames were Hard and Hardy). I do find a couple of Snacks in Muskingum Co., Ohio in 1850. Jacob Snack is 83 and in an 'infirmary'--he's from PA. Could he be Hester's father? There is also a Bernard Snack, age 39, born in PA, wife Mary, 35, PA, and daughter Emeline, 18, OH. Maybe Hester's brother? I checked just 'John' in Muskingum Co., Ohio to try to find another variant of 'Hearth' but got over 3000 names in return. I checked just 'Hester' in Muskingum Co., Ohio. There were only 87, but none of the surnames are close to 'Hearth'. Sorry, but I think we're going to need some more information about this couple. Did they have children? Do you have John's birthplace? Did they move from Muskingum Co.? Any other little scraps of info on them? Sorry, Terri McDonald Hauk t.hauk@comcast.net
