Hi Michael, I didn't see a reply for your request in the list's archives. The only George SELLERS showing up in my 1850 index living in Warren Co. is born 1791 in VA and is living in Clear Creek Twp. with wife, Annie and 6 children. There are 13 results showing for George SELLERS but none of them have a birth year of 1827. The closest one is born in 1833, OH (age 17) and living in Morrow Co. with an Epha SELLERS, age 44, Margaret 20, and Isaac 14. A search using the spelling SELLARS shows a George SELLARS, b. 1825 OH living in Knox Co. with a wife Adeline and 2 small children. My 1860 index doesn't show any listing for a George SELLERS in Salem Twp. in Warren Co. There's a listing for a George SILLARS-- is that who you're referring to? Sorry I'm not having any luck pinning him down. Marilyn --------------------original message------------------------ In a message dated 4/21/2006 6:40:23 P.M. Sellers should appear about age 23, but the township is unknown. He married Nancy Whitacre 14 Oct 1852 in Warren County, so I'm relatively sure he was in Warren County by 1850. Unfortunately, parents and/or siblings that would normally help narrow down the search are not known. His gravestone calculates his birth date as September 27, 1827, and he did appear as "George Sellers" in Salem Township, Warren County, Ohio, as age 33 on the 1860 Census. Just have no idea where he was in Warren Co. in 1850, thus the reason for the lookup. Hope that's enough to go on. Thanks in advance for the lookup! Michael Sellers
Marilyn, Thanks very much for the lookup(s) and attempt to help. Ole George certainly has turned into the mysterious one. As for the George Sellers that you did find, George born 1791 in VA with wife Annie were my cousins, and I know he isn't the George W. Sellers I'm looking for. I can rule out George Sellers with wife Adeline in Knox County as I find them still in Knox County on the 1860 Census. 17 year old George with 44 year old Epha is at least worth looking into from my end even though the age doesn't match. I find Epha listed as "Alfa" on the 1860 Census, still in Morrow County, with Isaac, age 23. George isn't to be found ... Yes, 33 year old George Sillars with wife Nancy in Salem Township in 1860 is/was the George I'm looking for ten years earlier in 1850. He and Nancy weren't married til Oct. 14, 1852, in Warren County so I was hoping to find him in one of the neighboring townships in 1850. George evidently died May 12, 1864, as a result of drowning while trying to cross the Ohio River when moving out with his Civil War company. His gravestone was recently unearthed after having been buried in what is now a pasture for well over 100 years. Figured we owed it to him to figure out who he "belonged to" ... but we still don't know. Thanks again for the lookup and the help. If you come up with any other possibilities please don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks!
