Sandy, Are you certain that the information you have from the 1870 census is correct? I don't find any listing in the 1870 census index for an Airy/Arey JOHNSTON anywhere in Monroe County, and the only Benjamin JOHNSTON in Franklin Township was born 1838, making him 22 yrs. old. Also, the 1870 census didn't specify if someone was widowed or not. Can you send me the page number of the census where the 1870 information was found? I want to take a look at the entry before I try a search in the 1860 index. Marilyn --------------------------original message-------------------- In a message dated 1/23/2008 11:08:41 A.M. Hi! I wonder if someone could find time to check the census for me. It would be appreciated if they could check the 1850 Monroe Co., OH census for Arey/Airy Johnston. I am looking for Arey/Airy Johnston, b. c. 1824. She had a son born in 1862 in Woodstock, OH by the name of Benjamin. In 1870 and 1880 she was in Franklin Twp, Monroe Co., OH. I know very little about her. I would like to find her husband's name and her parents name if possible. I realize that in 1850 they usually gave the head of household and very little else. So far she has not told where her parents were born. As far as I can tell she was born in OH. In 1850 she would have been about 26. Possibly someone could find her listed as someone's wife. I do not know if she had earlier children than Benjamin. She lists herself as a widow. Any information someone could come up with would be greatly appreciated. Hi! I have a look-up from a very kind researcher for 1870 Monroe Co., OH. I wonder if someone would have the time to look up the 1860 census for me. I am researching Arey/Airy Johnston. If it happened to show her parents' birthplace That also would be wonderful. It could be that her husband was killed in the Civil War or died after 1862. It could possibly be that it would be listed in his name with her as his wife. The 1860 census would not give as much information as later, but perhaps it will give something that I don't have. I hope I can find her before 1850. Thank you for anything you could do. It would be greatly appreciated. Sandy **************Start the year off right. Hi! I wonder if someone would have the time to look up a census for me. I am researching Airy Johnston. From what I can find out I would guess her birthdate as 1824. In 1880 she had a farm in Stafford, Monroe Co., OH. She had a son named Benjamin Johnston who was born in 1862. There were no other children listed. If she had any, they must have been grown and away from the family. In 1880 it does not even list any help living on the farm; however, her son was 18. She never gives the birthplace for her parents, but does say that she was born in OH. I would like very much to know if she was on this same farm in 1870 and if so, who lived there with her. Her son would have been about eight. I have not been able to find a husband's name or anything about him. I am beginning to suspect that perhaps she was never married and, as one of our librarians suggested, perhaps she had moved there from another area to one where no one would know her. Could you please see if she turns up in the 1870 census? Also if you had any suggestions, I would welcome them. Thanks. Sandy **************Start the year off right.
